Probably everyone knows about otitis media. The pain in this disease is comparable in strength to toothache. What medications will help her take off? Read about it below.
Otitis - a brief description of the disease
Otitis is a disease of all ages, but children are most susceptible to it. The cause of inflammation is an infection. The development of otitis media occurs after an ear injury, as a result of an allergy, with complications of colds (most often).
The main symptoms are fever, decreased (or even absence) hearing, pain in the ear itself and headache. The disease is diagnosed by a narrow-profile specialist (ENT doctor).
The treatment regimen usually includes warming (compresses) and - sometimes - antibiotics. Drops in the ears with otitis media are prescribed most often. Surgical operations are indicated only in rare cases (in the absence of the effectiveness of the prescribed treatment and the identification of complications).
What ear drops for otitis media are usually prescribed by doctors?
The drug "Sofradeks" - can be used for instillation in both the ears and eyes. It has antibacterial, anti-allergic and anti-inflammatory effects (pronounced). These drops in the ears are very effective for otitis media (four times a day, 3 drops each). Exceeding the dose is undesirable. In rare cases, allergic reactions such as itching, burning, pain in the external auditory canals are possible. Pregnant and lactating women, newborns and people with hepatic (or renal) failure, the drug is contraindicated.
Means "Anauran" - drops in the ears with otitis media of all types, except purulent. For adults, the dosage is 5 cap., For children - 3 cap. (twice-thrice a day). During pregnancy, the need for use is determined by the doctor. Side effects are rare. They can be expressed in local peeling of the skin, periodic itching, burning.
The drug "Otinum" - drops, which include salicylic acid, so they are contraindicated primarily to those who have damage to the eardrum (fraught with hearing impairment). They are prescribed mainly for inflammation of the middle ear.
The tool "Normax" (with the active component norfloxacin) - has an antibacterial spectrum of action. Ineffective for diseases caused by aerobic bacteria. Acinetobacter, Enterococcus strains are insensitive to it. It is indicated for all types of otitis media, including purulent and chronic. Treating children requires caution. Up to 12 years of use is undesirable. Individual dosage (up to six times a day, 1-2 cap.). Typically, the drug does not cause complaints, but sometimes there are side effects such as itching, rash, angioedema. Use with caution to children.
Otipax is one of the few drugs that can be used for children even of infancy. In the indications for use - otitis media. Drops, due to the combination of phenazone with lidocaine, immediately have a number of effects: anti-inflammatory, analgesic and antibacterial. A decrease in sensitivity occurs already from the first minutes after instillation. After 20-30 minutes the pain goes away completely. It is used up to 4 times a day (3 cap.). It is well tolerated. In isolated, extremely rare cases, itching and redness are possible.
Important!
The use of these drugs is possible only until the membrane is perforated (violation of its integrity). If the discharge of blood, fluid or pus has begun, the instillation is stopped and a doctor is soon contacted.
All drops in the ears (with otitis media and other inflammations) must be warmed. Cold, in addition to negative effects on hearing, can provoke seizures. Do not forget that the auditory meatus is located in close proximity to the brain!
Proper treatment can be prescribed only by an otolaryngologist.
