Tips on how to remove odors from shoes and prevent them from appearing

Such a problem as the unpleasant smell from shoes is quite common and almost everyone has come across this. As a rule, most often you have to deal with this in the cold season. This is due to the fact that for a long time we wear fairly warm shoes without taking them off, because not everyone has the opportunity, when they come to work, to change shoes into removable, lighter shoes.

But do not despair, because if there is a cause for the problem, then there are ways to eliminate this cause. Remember that it is necessary to look for the reason, because shoes cannot by themselves publish such “aromas”. Let's try together to figure out how to remove the smell from shoes.

And there may be several reasons. And above all, it is excessive sweating of the legs. When your legs sweat a lot, the smell eats into the tissue and getting rid of it is quite difficult. But you can still decide how to remove the smell from the shoes. And it’s best to prevent the occurrence than then look for ways to fix the problem that has already arisen.

In order to rid the shoes of the smell, you need to properly care for them from the moment of purchase. First of all, you need to get the most information about the rules for caring for a particular shoe. If the shoe is not accompanied by any instructions or documentation regarding the material from which it is made or care for this material, then you should ask the seller about this. As a last resort, read in any information sources about the qualities of this material. Of course, do not forget that it is better to purchase shoes made from natural materials, then the legs will “breathe” and will not sweat, and, therefore, there will be no smell.

Particular attention should be paid to the issue of proper storage of shoes. If, coming from the street, you find that your shoes are wet (from snow or rain), do not immediately put them on the battery or just throw them at the doorstep. And it’s absolutely impossible to clean such shoes right away in a drawer (cabinet) for shoes. To begin with, you need to clean the shoes of dirt and only then put it to dry, but in no case on the battery. It’s best to just straighten the shoes to allow air to flow in and leave them to dry, even better if this happens outdoors, well, or at least on the balcony. And so that the shoes are not wet, do not forget to conduct external treatment with water repellents.

When buying new shoes, do not spare money on the purchase of antibacterial insoles, in which case you will partially prevent troubles in advance and can rid the shoes of the smell. And try to change such insoles at least once every 2-3 months.

Use special shoe fragrances. It can be various liquid and solid deodorizing fresheners, and special bags with deodorant substances, as well as special mesh packaging filled with zeolite (a natural material that can absorb odor).

There is also a mass of folk remedies that will help resolve the issue of how to remove the smell from shoes. For example, the most common baking soda will help you solve the problem of unpleasant odors. It is enough to put soda in the shoes (if it is black, then first put it in a bag of any breathing material).

There is another effective remedy for the smell of shoes from folk recipes. Put the shoes overnight in the freezer, unless, of course, they are patent leather. Do not forget to first place it in a plastic bag.

Also, a fairly simple way to remove odor from shoes is to use hydrogen peroxide. Just treat all the shoes with peroxide and dry (I do not advise experimenting with expensive shoes this way).

And of course, remember about foot hygiene. After all, the fungus that forms as a result of sweating feet is the main cause of the unpleasant smell of shoes. Wash your feet twice a day (you can use household soap), change socks (tights) more often. If sweating is increased it is worth taking measures to eliminate this trouble.
