A stool is the simplest type of furniture. Therefore, if you want to learn how to do something on your own to equip your interior, you should start with it. We will try to consider how to make a simple plywood stool with our own hands. Everyone can make a simple, but high-quality product on their own. But you will need, of course, a minimal set of tools.
The main details of the stool
This primitive piece of furniture has only two basic elements - legs and a seat. No backs or extra accessories. More complex designs have a reinforcement - at the bottom of the sleeves, and at the top of the czar. That's all the terms, now you can start describing the sizes. The next stage is the development of the scheme. Measure the height and other parameters of the stool. Optimal sizes:
- The adult seat should have a size of 30-45 cm.
- For children - 25-28 cm.

Materials for the manufacture
In the manufacture you need to use quality materials. The most reliable are forged products. But they are expensive and working with metal is more difficult. Wood is a fairly reliable material, as it is durable and easy to work with. But it is imperative to dry the tree at a temperature of 20-30 degrees before starting work. Drying the wood in the chamber causes it to crack.
Hardwood shows itself well - birch, maple, hemlock, wenge. As an option - make at least the legs of wood. After all, these elements take on a huge load. The requirements for the seat are not so stringent, so it is allowed to use plywood or chipboard. A stool made of birch plywood will be reliable, and it’s easy to work with the material.
Material Features
The cheapest option is chipboard boards. It is worth noting that this material is not reliable. True, you can strengthen the plate to reduce pressure on them. But the second drawback is unlikely to get rid of - formaldehyde resins, which are contained in the chipboard, are constantly released into the surrounding space. And completely get rid of them does not work.
Much stronger MDF board. And most importantly, it is durable. But it is best combined with hardwood. As a rule, MDF is used only for the manufacture of seats. A great substitute for wood is plywood. This is a durable and environmentally friendly material, from it you can make all the details of the structure. Literally from 3-4 plywood elements you can make a simple stool.
What tools are needed
Tools need to be selected based on what material you work with. First, determine the size of the stool from plywood, then purchase materials and prepare tools from the list:
- Roulette.
- Screwdriver.
- Wood screws.
- The square.
- Electric or manual jigsaw.
- Chisels.
- Joiner's glue.

Manufacturing procedure
So, it's time to start making stools. Prepare a sheet of plywood, wood blocks (if you decide to make the legs of natural material). If you do not have the opportunity to purchase an electric jigsaw, then you can use the manual one. As an option - buy a thin blade for hacksaw. With it, you can easily cut a blank of any shape from plywood.
The first thing you need to do out of paper is cut out the patterns. These are templates of all parts made of paper or cardboard. They must exactly follow the contours of all elements. However, if you have a good imagination and eye, then you can not make templates.
So, we proceed to the manufacture of all parts:
- First, prepare the square legs 50x50 mm. To do this, from the whole bar you need to saw off 4 identical pieces of 450 mm.
- Now you cut a blank under the seat from plywood - the size is approximately 380x380 mm. It is advisable to use boards with a thickness of 20 mm.
- Now you need to cut out the czars and sleeves to connect the legs. In total, 4 elements are needed.
- Also, 4 bars are required to connect the seat and the drawers. To do this, spikes need to be cut at the edges of the tsar, and grooves on the legs. The length of the grooves and spikes should be 20-25 mm. Similarly, you need to do with stitches.
Production completion
It is necessary to process all elements of wood with emery. Initial assembly should be without glue. If necessary, adjust the elements. At the end, lubricate the parts with carpentry glue and assemble in a single design. The bars located between the drawers must be secured with screws to the bottom of the seat. If you wish, you can make the seat soft. To do this, you will have to buy fabric and foam rubber (the piece should have the same dimensions as the seat). The upholstery should be fixed with a stapler.
Other varieties of stools
There are designs that are much easier to do than classic ones. The most common are structures consisting of a seat, two wide legs and a jumper. The assembly of such a stool can be carried out both from wood, and from chipboard, MDF, plywood.
The fixture of the structure is carried out using furniture screws and carpentry glue. Please note that the crossbar must be trapezoidal and have a bevel of about 5 mm. In this case, the stool will turn out to be as stable as possible.
There is also a lightweight option - without a king. In this case, the legs are placed directly in the grooves on the seat. One point should be noted - the seat will have to be made of thick plywood. You can fix in the places of attachment to the seat bars, in which the grooves are made. The legs should be slightly thicker than with the drawer.

After that, you can carefully polish all the elements of the stool and treat it with paint and varnish.
Stool decoration
And the final stage is the design. It directly depends on which room it will be used in. You can take a stencil to apply a drawing to the surface. For this, it is most convenient to use an aerosol can. Top, of course, be sure to apply varnish.
As an option - make a decoupage. This is a complex process, but it is quite possible to do it yourself. To do this, you will need glue like PVA, wipes with a beautiful pattern, as well as acrylic varnish. If you do not want to spend a lot of time on decoration - just decorate one seat.
