Douglas Preston was born May 20, 1956 in the city of Cambridge, Massachusetts, United States of America. Douglas moved to Clermont, where he enrolled in a local college with a degree in English Literature, where he graduated with honors.
After completing his studies, Douglas Preston worked at the American Museum of Natural History, located in New York. There, he spent most of his time as editor, and then was promoted to publication manager. In parallel, he taught English literature at Princeton University.

Preston Douglas has written many books in his life, but the series about Aloise Pendergast, written in collaboration with Lincoln Child, brought him the most popularity. The most outstanding and famous was the first book of the series, called "Relic".
The plot begins with the arrival of a new exhibit from South America at the American Museum of Natural History (in which Preston worked). And immediately after that a series of mysterious deaths begins in the museum. Moreover, these are murders that are so bloody and ruthless that it immediately becomes clear that the killer cannot be human. And the investigator Pendergast will have to find out who is behind all this.

The first book in the series was the work “The Sword of Gideon”, which tells how a talented hacker Gideon, who stole the greatest works of art, cracked the most impenetrable computer defenses and sophisticatedly avenged the killers of his parents, became an agent of the US special services that entrust him with the task of delivery important information to a Japanese physicist who dies right before the meeting.

He begins trying to unravel the cipher, but so far does not even suspect that he is becoming the target just because he became the owner of these treasured numbers.
What hides this cipher? The protagonist hopes to find the answer to this question from a monk living in a distance from civilization. It turns out that this monk is an experienced CIA cryptographer who has resigned. Can he help the main character?
