A basketball is the most important basketball item. Therefore, attention to his choice is very important. The game itself requires serious physical costs and is not technically difficult, and if you play it also on an unsuitable site or with inconvenient equipment, then all the pleasure of the game will turn into torment. So, how to choose a basketball for yourself or for a child?
Where do we play?
First, we’ll decide where we are going to play. Agree, in the hall and on the street - this is not the same thing? It depends on how to choose a basketball.
Street coating - bitumen or asphalt, is not the same as coating in the gym. There is another rebound and a different surface rigidity.
Therefore, choosing the ball, we look at the inscription on the ball:
- INDOOR - hall ball;
- INDOOR / OUTDOOR - universal;
- OUTDOOR - street ball.
“Indurs” are mostly professional balls made of genuine leather or synthetic materials. They have a coating made of a special composite microfiber, which serves for good adhesion to the parquet, as well as to the player’s ball. In addition, this coating dampens the power of the blows: the block shot in your performance will not be so painful.
The ball is, of course, cool, but do not try to go out with it to play outside. Microfiber will be wiped off very quickly on asphalt, and not only will it lose its beautiful appearance, but will become completely worthless, but Indurs are expensive. The highest chic among the Indurs is the ball marked Indoor use only (only for halls) and supreme leather (high-quality leather).
If you play on the street court or in the hall with one ball, well, or you want it to be that way, then choose the INDOOR / OUTDOOR station wagon. They are made of soft rubber and are much more resistant to wear, although, of course, they are inferior to Induras in terms of convenience. However, station wagons differ in coverage, as do street venues themselves. Rubber is better to play on the pavement. But for smooth and semi-soft surfaces, as well as for the hall, it is better to use balls with a composite or synthetic coating. Although in the hall you can play rubber.
"Outdors" are intended exclusively for the street. The special coating resists asphalt, but do not expect comfort from dribbling like this with Indurams.
Basketball ball Molten
Probably the best option would be universal. Therefore, we will talk about the best of them. Today - this is the American Molten (made in Thailand) in various versions. These ball feel great both in the hall and on the street.
Made of composite leather. The surface is rough, which facilitates ball control. Consists of 12 panels that are glued. The camera is butyl. Important fact: Molten is approved for use by the International Amateur Basketball Federation (FIBA).

Although the choice, of course, is yours. More than worthy balls are produced by such leaders in the sports industry in the field of ball manufacturing as Spalding, Wilson, Rawlings and Nike. We continue to give advice on how to choose a basketball.
Who are we playing with?
A basketball is not one of the lightest and not the smallest sports balls in the family. Therefore, it is better to go to the site with appropriate equipment and partners for the game. How to choose the size of a basketball?
There are four official sizes:
- 3rd size. Circumference - 57 cm. Designed for very young basketball players. It weighs up to 330 g.
- 5th size. Junior. Basketball players are under 12 years old. This ball is already bigger. For a circle - 70 cm. Weighs no more than half a kilogram.
- 6th size. Female and youthful (under 16 years old) ball. The circumference of this ball is 3 cm larger than the junior one. Weight up to 567 g.
- 7th size. Standard male ball. The circumference is 76 cm. It weighs, unlike its predecessors in size, already closer to a kilogram - up to 650 g.
What are we playing?
The material from which the ball is made depends on whether it is street or indoor. The price of the ball also depends on it. So how to choose a basketball?
"Indors" are usually expensive. Especially those made of genuine leather. They serve for a long time, but again, if you play them only in the halls.
However, wagons - those from synthetics can be the most expensive.
The cheapest are the rubber balls of the Outdoors. Moreover, the lower the price, the faster the ball will become slippery (wear out).
What and how are we checking?
How to choose a basketball for the street? Yes, as well as for the hall.
- We pick up the ball and check its inflation. If you feel that it is undershot, it is likely that something is wrong with the nipple. Better take another one. To make sure that everything is fine with the ball, one can rely not only on feeling. Release the ball to the floor from the level of your head: a normal ball should jump to your waist.
- Check the nipple. Put a little saliva on the ball nipple and squeeze the ball a little. If we see air bubbles: the nipple does not hold air.
- Move the ball: does it bounce well in the vertical? If he talks sideways, then the ball is out of balance. It's up to you, you can buy one, but managing it in the game will be very difficult.
- We look at swelling and hernia. Have you found? Do not take risks: it’s better not to buy this.
- The same as in paragraph 3, but in dynamics. Spinning the ball toward you, toss it up. So the ball can be viewed from all sides.
- Inspect the surface. Especially the seams. Between this basketball pattern and the surface of the ball there should be no holes or other space.
We hope that the above will be useful if you are interested in the question of how to choose a basketball?
