Publishing house "Kuchkovo field". History and interesting facts

The Kuchkovo Pole publishing house is well known to those who are fond of the history of their country. This is due to the fact that in the walls of this edition many scientific books have been printed that touch on the most intriguing topics. However, if the products of the publication itself do not require additional advertising, then its team often remains in the shade. And this, to put it mildly, is unfair.

The beginning of a long journey

Kuchkovo Field appeared in 1992, relying on its elder brother, Fabula Publishing House. Funding was provided by the A.S. Pushkin. Alas, the crisis of 1995 led to the fact that the cash flow was blocked and “Fabula” turned out to be completely bankrupt. Part of the debts fell on Kuchkovo Field, since it did not close and the editor-in-chief Georgy Kuchkov began to fight for his life.

In fact, he could not do otherwise. After all, this place was his brainchild, and as a father, he loved him with all his heart. Therefore, George did everything possible in order to find new sponsors, at whose expense it would be possible to produce fresh books. Let the Kuchkovo Field slowly, but still begin to stand up. And only with the advent of the new millennium did it manage to reach the previous level of printing.

Name History

It remains a mystery to many readers why the editorial board has such a strange name. However, it is worth digging a little deeper, as everything falls into place. What is true, “a little deeper” means to go to the beginning of the XII century during the reign of Yuri Dolgoruky. So, circling his lands with a check, the king came across an area of marvelous beauty that belonged to the wealthy merchant Stepan Kuchka.

The lord decided to stay with the owner, but he answered rudely to his request (according to one version, Yuri Dolgoruky simply came up with this story in order to take the land from the merchant). The tsar was enraged and ordered the execution of the ignorant boyar, and his family sent to Vladimir. Later, these lands became part of Moscow, and only a small piece of them remained Kuchkov.

Regarding communication with the editors, Georgy Kuchkov believes that the merchant was his distant relative. Therefore, it is not surprising that his creation bears the proud name “Kuchkovo Field”, thereby recalling the sad events of the past.

Editorial policy

Today the Kuchkovo Pole publishing house is engaged in the production of historical books. This includes series devoted to the last two wars, biographies of famous politicians, guides on the work of special services, and so on. At the same time, the editors are very strict about the accuracy of historical data, so as not to blush before their readers.

In order to achieve this goal, she often collaborates with various museums and private collectors. Thanks to this, they have access to extensive sources of information, such as memoirs, photographs, archaeological texts and so on. Moreover, as Georgy Kuchkov himself admitted, they were even allowed to open a series of secret archives in order to better describe the work of Russian special services of the past.

Awards and contributions to society

Since 2000, Kuchkovo Field has been constantly participating in Moscow and regional competitions dedicated to cultural education of the country. Thanks to this, his books have gained the popularity that is needed for sound competition in the Russian market.

In addition, the publisher has repeatedly received prestigious awards related to journalism. For example, for the book "The Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945," it received the award "Book of the Year." In addition, the publisher was repeatedly sent thank-you notes from the Federal Security Service of Russia in the field of literature.

All this led to the fact that the once small edition turned into a real pen shark, able to beat its competitors in a fair fight. So, the Russian world can be calm, since books about its history will still appear on store windows.
