Psychological characteristics of adolescents

In the life of every person, or rather a child, there comes a moment when he begins to realize that the world is much wider than his ideas, his worldview begins to change, the child ceases to classify himself as a child, but he also cannot classify himself as an adult. This condition is called the transition period, or scientific - puberty, when sharp changes in the physiological structure and psycho-emotional development begin in the child’s body. Physiologists often associate many phenomena during this period with a sharp "hormonal explosion", which determines the specific behavior of the child. However, psychologists give their reasons due to which the psychological characteristics of adolescents develop.

During this period, the child has the so-called sense of maturity, he begins to realize the presence of his own "I", his personal qualities and seeks to form new standards of behavior, imitating adult idols. The peculiarities of the psychological development of adolescents are such that, subject to changes in their consciousness and the desire to obtain their social status in society, the child tends to make his own decisions and participate in family life on the basis of an adult member of society. At the same time, the contradictory behavior of the child leads to the appearance of character traits such as determination and at the same time lack of initiative, aggression and apathy, exaltation and isolation, which periodically replace each other for no apparent reason. This often leads adults to bewilderment. And often parents and teachers treat this incorrectly from the perspective of an adult rather than an equal person, which greatly aggravates the relationship between an adult and a teenager.

Moreover, it is often said that adolescence is very aggressive and uncoordinated, that adolescents should be directed and instructed in what to do and what to do. However, this is fundamentally wrong, and does not take into account the psychological characteristics of adolescents, if the child takes the initiative in setting personal goals and trying to achieve them, you do not need to dissuade him, whether it be music, dancing, sports or anything. It often happens that to the detriment of classes at school, adolescents prefer to do things they love, to which parents and teachers react inappropriately, trying to restructure it for study, believing that it is more necessary for him. Often adults communicate with adolescents, not taking into account the psychological characteristics of adolescents, which leads to the formation of consciousness of the so-called difficult teenager, with whom they then actively fight. The psychological characteristics of difficult adolescents are characterized by the incorrect formation of authorities, and therefore goals and attitudes. They begin to acquire the so-called signs of adulthood, manifested by smoking, drinking alcohol, drug addiction and using profanity. Thus, they are trying to assert themselves among older peers. Often they move away from close relationships in the family, close, which later on in adulthood is manifested by the inability to build adequate relationships with the opposite sex and build family relationships.

Psychologists recommend that adults take a closer look at their teenage children and take into account the psychological characteristics of adolescents, both at home and in social groups. This applies to school teachers, relatives and other adults working in school groups.

It is necessary to develop the right motivations for adolescents, support them in setting life goals and affirming their own "I" as a separate person, capable of adult thoughtful actions and new achievements.
