In the modern world, one can often find the word “compilation”, as well as the verb “compile”. These are quite interesting words that have different meanings depending on which field they are used in. In total, three main areas can be distinguished - programming, music and literature. In the modern world, compilation is much more often applied to computer programs; in other areas, synonyms of the word are often used.
Compilation in programming
If we take the most relevant area of use, that is, programming, then the meaning here is quite simple. To compile is to re-code the program code to make it more universal. For example, a programmer created his program in a specific language, however, how exactly can you launch it for those users who do not have this software environment? It is for this that a special compiler is used, which is able to compile the program, that is, to make simple code from it. It can then be played on any computer without the need to install additional software. Thus, compiled languages are those programming languages that can be easily compiled to get basic code. That is, these languages include the most popular and commonly used options.
In music
However, this word, as mentioned above, is used not only in programming. He has other areas of application, for example, music. In this case, to compile is to compile a collection of compositions that are united by any one theme. It can be either one artist, or one time period, one genre, and so on. But there is another meaning - when a new piece is composed of several pieces of musical works. So to compile is also to create something new from the elements of the old. Naturally, you should do this only with the permission of the composers and performers of those songs and melodies that you use - otherwise it will be plagiarism, for which you can be punished.
In literature
We should also talk about literature: here compilation is writing based on existing literary works with their use. However, it should be understood that in this case, compilation and plagiarism are not the same thing. With plagiarism, the ideas and texts of the authors are used without their knowledge in order to pass them off as their own creativity. If we are talking about compilation, then we are working with a large number of sources that are used to create informative material. The most striking example of compilation in the literature is the encyclopedia.
