Costa Ricans are one of the most peaceful and patriotic nations. Each native resident of the country knows the history of his homeland and remembers his ancestors. After a bloody civil war that happened more than 60 years ago, the regular army was completely disbanded in the country. The government has a policy of abstinence from any armed conflict. Pacifism is expressed even in the national motto, which reads “Long live labor and peace!” Research conducted a couple of years ago shows that it is Costa Rica, where the largest number of people are satisfied with their lives, is the country with the highest index of happiness. The cultural level of the inhabitants is quite high for this region. Noteworthy is the library in San Jose, which is already more than 125 years old.

The most famous national dish is casados. Its second name is pinto. It is very simple to prepare: you just need to mix the beans with rice and vegetables to taste. Casados is served as a side dish for meat snacks.
