A bag chair is a rather convenient and practical piece of home furniture that saves space. Another feature of it is that it can transform and take on any shape depending on the sitting posture, which is very convenient. That is why many designers have begun to widely use this option. But, unfortunately, not everyone can afford it, because at first glance these simple chairs are expensive. But no need to be upset, you can always learn how to make frameless furniture with your own hands. To make our dreams come true, we just need two types of fabric (one on the outer cover, the other on the inside), scissors, zipper, thread, pencil, ruler, large size drawing paper, filler for the bean bag, and, of course, a little savvy and fantasies.
Which fabric is better to choose?
As we already found out, we need to sew two covers. For the inside, it is best to use a strong fabric, for example, raincoat fabric, calico or satin, but for the outside, suede, leatherette, jeans, velvet, as well as a variety of furniture fabrics are suitable. If funds allow, you can sew several different covers and periodically change them. Thus, the chair-bag will not bother you, and even so much more interesting: you can choose colors depending on your mood. And one more nuance: if you have a small child, then it is best to choose a fabric that will be well washed. Indeed, in this case, you most likely will not be immune from spilling juice, painting with paints, etc.
How to cut?
If you are an experienced seamstress, then the pattern of the chair-bag should not lead you into a stupor. But for beginners it is best to start with simple forms: sausages, ottomans, bananas. When you will succeed, you can safely move on to more complex shapes: drops and pears. To begin with, of course, it is worth drawing a small pattern on paper and try to fold it. If everything fits together, then you can safely increase it to its actual size and transfer it to the fabric.
What thread to use?
Inside the cover, as a rule, there is a filler for the bag-chair, which is under quite strong pressure, so that the seams must be very durable. Push the cotton threads to the side immediately, only reinforced ones that can withstand a large load are suitable here.
Which filler for the bean bag to choose?
The most common is polystyrene foam, in other words, polystyrene foam. Such a filler is absolutely safe, hygienic, does not absorb moisture, and mites and various bacteria will never get into it. Polyfoam retains heat very well, so such a chair certainly will not be cold. Filler for a chair bag can be bought in supermarkets, construction companies and furniture companies. Pay particular attention to the size of the balls: they should be 4-5 mm in diameter.
Some recommendations
In the finished chair-bag, the filler should be filled only 2/3. Otherwise, you will not get the necessary plasticity and lightness. The foam is highly electrified, so you may have some difficulties when filling the product. An ordinary plastic bottle will come to the rescue, or rather, its upper part (it will need to be cut off). The bag with the filler is sealed, you just have to make a small incision on it. Now glue the top of the bottle to the opened package. Thus, we have obtained a package with a neck from which it is already easy and simple to pour out the required amount of filler.
