Engine Waste Oil: Recycling and Refining. What to do with used engine oil

Currently, Russia takes 15th place in the world in the production of automotive products. For the period from January to July inclusive, the country produced about a million units of cars and trucks, buses, and at the moment the Russian fleet has more than 44 million units. On the roads still ride motorcycles, mopeds and even tractors.

Cars on our roads.

All these products pollute the air with exhaust fumes, which even a child can easily feel. But there is another acute environmental problem that does not hurt the pedestrianโ€™s eyes and smell and is rarely remembered by the driver himself. It is a matter of disposing of used oil.

Motor oil is ...

The engine has moving metal parts such as pistons and valves. Their operation without lubrication will resemble a turning process. Depreciation is inevitable in the shortest possible time. The oil product enveloping the details is of suitable viscosity, chemical composition, stable consistency (a lot depends on the manufacturer) and is an engine oil.

Engine oil.

Reducing friction due to oil increases the efficiency of the motor, globally extends the life of the mechanism. In addition, the circulation of a viscous fluid helps to eliminate engine overheating, washes off combustion products.

Motor oils are: universal, for diesel engines, aircraft piston engines, carburetors.

Why oil needs to be changed?

During operation, the oil is contaminated with its own decay products, resins, mechanical impurities (mainly fine iron powder, which is obtained during normal wear of engine parts). There comes a time when its further use increases the mechanical and corrosive wear of the engine exponentially.

Oil changes 1 time in 8-10 thousand kilometers. This is optimal to keep the motor in good condition. For a car enthusiast riding his vehicle several times a week, you get 2 oil changes per year. If you use the car as a taxi, you need to change the lubricant about once a month. With an average volume of a serving of oil of 3.5 liters, a huge annual consumption is obtained.

Why are special disposal methods needed?

Used engine oil has the following negative characteristics:

  • insoluble;
  • may contain toxic chemicals and heavy metals;
  • slowly collapses;
  • penetrates everywhere, and especially harms, soaking in any soil and in the plumage of birds;
  • is a major source of waterway pollution and can lead to spoilage of drinking water sources.

When draining oil from the crankcase, make sure that it does not spill. Contain the product only in a sealed, insoluble container.

What to do with used engine oil?

In civilized countries, a massive collection of old-time oil has been established in special tanks. In Russia, for a simple car owner, this remains a big problem. After all, not everyone will have a hand to drain the oil on the ground, on the roadway or in the pond. So the canisters with oil working out in garages are stored for years, taking up space and increasing fire hazard. And even a teenager, having learned that dad does not need it, can come up with an original application for oil.

Found a place for waste.

In the last decade, companies have appeared that buy this raw material for processing. The price of used oil averages about 6 rubles per kg. But the probability of selling an amount of less than 200 kg tends to zero. You can try to pass this value to the service station. If you change the oil there, they leave it at home and, possibly, accumulate volumes sufficient for sale.

There are craftsmen who use mining to lubricate bicycle sprockets, rotating tool elements, to grease wooden and iron parts buried in the ground such as pipes or fence posts. But do not forget about the possible high toxicity of this liquid.

How to collect used engine oil

Tank for collecting oil.

In the event that in the near future reception of oil processing at the inhabitants will be established, you will need to follow these rules:

  1. Do not mix oil with other automotive fluids or household chemicals (other oil, antifreeze, thinner, paint).
  2. Avoid using containers that previously stored these chemicals to store used oil.
  3. Hand over as soon as possible after use, as its ability to regenerate decreases.

Compliance with this order greatly simplifies and reduces the cost of disposal of used motor oils.

The economic benefits of processing

Processing enterprise.

The benefits of arranging the processing of used engine oil will affect literally everyone. The advantages of the process will be:

  1. The ability not to pollute the environment and, therefore, not to invest in its salvation.
  2. The oil can be cleaned and get almost the same amount of fuel oil.
  3. Used oil product after more thorough cleaning gives โ‰ˆ 60% at the base oil output. By adding standard additives, various types of modern lubricants can be obtained.
  4. Saving a natural irreplaceable resource.
  5. Preservation of funds required for the disposal of toxic waste.
  6. Reduction of landfills for any unrecycled waste.
  7. Less energy will be spent on the production of a liter of oil from refined materials than from basic raw materials from oil.

Heating option for the use of oil waste

If you think about the environment, then the disposal of used motor oils by burning is acceptable in certified furnaces and boilers of industrial production. But when compared with the discharge of mining to land or to water, it is better to burn.

Oil waste is processed here.

A waste oil furnace with a water circuit is an example of the rational organization of a heating system. The basis of this design is the furnace itself, which can be used autonomously. The apparatus consists of two chambers connected by a pipe. The thickness of the steel on these parts must be at least 5 mm.

Mining is poured into the lower tank and set on fire. The resulting pairs rise through the connecting pipe with many holes with a diameter of about 10 mm, being saturated with air. The combustion process is growing rapidly. Its strength is regulated by a valve on the lower tank. Hot pairs burn out in the upper chamber. Residues of combustion exit through the chimney. The design of the chimney is described in this video.

Since the maximum amount of heat is generated in the second chamber, a water circuit passes through it. A thin pipe permeates the reservoir, which can be heated to a temperature of about 1,000 ยฐ C. Further, a pipe with a water carrier can cover the entire room or pass through the desired number of batteries. In half an hour you can warm up a roomy garage or greenhouse to the desired temperature.

On the lower tank, you can cook or heat something, like on a regular peasant stove. For a beginner, the difficulty is the moment of ignition of the oil. It is recommended that you carefully watch the following video.

Savings are savings, but before undertaking the manufacture of a makeshift furnace in order to dispose of used motor oils, you need to weigh everything well and not skimp on the construction of a chimney more authentic.
