What kind of outdoor recreation can we talk about if there is no barbecue? Recently, this subject has firmly entered our lives. Fragrant kebab, grilled meat, grilled sausages, grilled vegetables, for the sake of these culinary delights, we look forward to the weekend, and having waited with enthusiasm we storm the shelves of supermarkets in search of meat, seasonings, ketchups and other accessories for the grill . Do not forget about coal, without which all this fuss is useless. And the correct and quick kindling of coal is an art that requires experience and skill. In this article, we will consider how to make a starter for firing coal with your own hands. This device ignites the grill in just 15 minutes, which speeds up the process of preparing delicious snacks.
Purpose of a starter for ignition of coal
If you tried to ignite the coals in the barbecue yourself, then you know how difficult it is. If you pour them into the brazier and set fire with paper or thin sticks, then this does not always lead to success. Coals, of course, can flare up, but at least 40 minutes will pass before you can start cooking meat. You can speed up the process by using a small sheet of cardboard or plywood, fanning the coals with swings over the barbecue. But there is a risk, waving inadvertently, to overturn all that you have prepared.
You can use special means for ignition, which are offered in supermarkets. It can be various liquids or alcohol tablets. This will undoubtedly accelerate the process, but, as experience has shown, not much. It is best to use a mug for igniting coal. Time is reduced by 3-4 times, and this is a definite plus for quick cooking on the grill. Moreover, you donβt have to spend money on acquiring such a starter, you can do it yourself.
Materials for the manufacture
There may be several options for manufacturing a starter. The selection of materials also depends on this. All methods of manufacturing a starter for firing up coal with one's own hands are somewhat similar, so a general list of materials will be given below.
We will need:
- a piece of steel pipe of suitable diameter and length;
- metal bar or threaded rod;
- wooden rail;
- pieces of steel plates of different widths;
- screws and nuts to them.
As you can see, there are few materials, but that's the point! You can make a starter right before going to nature, spending a minimum of effort and time.
Instruments
Of course, for the manufacture of a starter for firing coal with our own hands, we need some tools:
- drill;
- drills of different diameters;
- hammer;
- vise;
- pliers;
- screwdriver;
- Bulgarian.
Other tools may be needed during the manufacturing process. But, as experience has shown, these are quite enough.
Starter Making
It's always nice to do something with your own hands. Pipe starter for ignition of coal - a simple device for the home master. Even a person who has never been involved in metal processing is capable of making this miracle. A starter will require a piece of steel pipe. It should not be too large a section. It is better to choose a pipe of at least 200 mm and not more than 250 mm in diameter. The height should not exceed 350 mm. These are optimum sizes for a starter. If you make it too large, then the ignition time will take more.
So, we have a pipe. Now we cut out a circle from the metal plate, which should freely enter the pipe. Over the entire area of ββthe plate we drill holes with a large diameter drill. Hot coals will be on this plate, so its thickness should be at least 2.5 mm.
Insert the plate into the pipe at a distance β
from its height. We fix the part in the pipe. You can use the welding machine, if it is not, then fasten with screws and nuts, after having previously drilled holes for them. Below the plate around the circumference of the pipe we also drill holes of large diameter. They will be needed for air access. Our do-it-yourself starter for coal firing is almost done.
The last link is the manufacture of pens. The handle is made of wooden slats so as not to burn your hands. We cut a 25 x 25 mm rail to a length β
of the height of our pipe. After drilling it in two places, insert the studs and tighten with nuts. We fasten the handles with the same studs to the pipe, having previously drilled two holes in it. Check the reliability of the connections. All! Now you can start the test!
