Building a house is a process that every year requires not only more and more time, but also money. Not everyone can master this occupation. That is why many of those who are seriously interested in new technologies often remember about sandwich panels. With their own hands, it is quite realistic to make them.
What is needed for this?
- Some kind of foundation (particleboard, OSB).
- Suitable insulation material.
- Normal glue.
- Press form.
- A set of knives.
- Protective film.
Choose the best
Decide on the material from which you will make sandwich panels with your own hands. You can use galvanized metal, any particle boards or natural wood. In any case, the sheets should be at least 6 millimeters thick.
And almost every option has pros and cons. For example, it is quite easy to work with a tree, but it also burns wonderful. Plastic sandwich panels are good, but itβs not easy to get the source material for their manufacture. Galvanized metal is expensive, but it does not rust and is not affected by fungi and rodents. However, to work with him you need special tools.
Types of insulation
Without a normal insulation, all sandwich panels (it is not so difficult to make them with your own hands) have no value. Polyurethane foam, polystyrene foam, ordinary
basalt wool or even fiberglass are quite cheap and widely used.
The amount of filler depends only on what you need a home for. If you plan to make warm housing, then the insulation layer can in no way be less than five centimeters.
Production process
It is necessary to stick the film on the side of the panel that will be outside (you can paint them with liquid rubber). In general, the protective layer is selected based on the characteristics of the material itself. The drying of the finished panels should take at least a day. If you have applied three or more layers of rubber, you have to wait at least three to four days.
Then gently apply glue to the surface of the panel that was not covered with a protective compound. It is best to use a composition based on polyurethane. Put a layer of insulation on it, carefully distributing its thickness.
Apply the same layer to another panel, lay it evenly on the insulation layer. Making sandwich panels with your own hands, you need to be as careful as possible, as production flaws will make themselves felt when you begin construction.
After you have formed the future material, it must be put under the press for several hours. Please note that the load must be evenly distributed over the entire surface. After pressing the panels, it is necessary to dry, and the duration of the process should be at least 30 hours.
Having made a sandwich panel with your own hands, do not forget to cut off the excess insulation, which will inevitably hang from the sides. If there is a need, the finished material can be cut into sheets of the dimensions you require.
Some notes
Be sure to remember that when applying glue, the layer should be distributed evenly over the entire surface to be treated. Otherwise, it may happen that the panels sprawl.
But what about the price of the process? Consider the simplest wooden sandwich panels. The price shows that one square meter will cost you three hundred rubles, or even less.
