early years
On August 14, 1955, Alexander Ivanovich Medvedev was born in a small urban-type settlement of Shakhtersk, Sakhalin Oblast. Almost nothing is known about the childhood of the future official. In an interview, Alexander Ivanovich says that since childhood he was a fan of hockey. Obviously, life in a village with a population of just over 10 thousand people did not abound with some significant events.
All residents of this place were associated with the activities of coal mines, which were in close proximity. Medvedev never talks about how he studied at school or about his classmates. It can be assumed that he studied well, since seriousness and responsibility are distinctive features of his character.
Education
Medvedev Alexander Ivanovich, whose family always remains in the shadows, does not talk about how in the mid-70s he ended up in Moscow. Whether the whole family moved here, or the young man came to enter the university on his own, is unknown. But in 1978, he graduated from one of the country's leading universities in the field of applied and theoretical physics and mathematics, the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology. MIPT has always been distinguished by the fact that it trained highly qualified personnel for the latest fields of science. Alexander Ivanovich Medvedev received a diploma in "Automatic control systems." Details about his student years cannot be found in open sources of information. But it is obvious that Alexander studied well, this helped him to get a good job after graduation.
In 1987, he graduated from the Institute of World Economy and International Relations of the Russian Academy of Sciences. Later, Alexander Medvedev defended his thesis for the degree of candidate of economic sciences.
Beginning of work biography
After the institute, Alexander Ivanovich Medvedev joined the prestigious scientific Institute of World Economy and International Relations of the USSR Academy of Sciences. He started as an employee of the department of international relations, but quickly managed to move up the career ladder and became a senior researcher in this unit, and later acting head of the sector.
The highest point of his career in the scientific community was the position of scientific secretary in the Comprehensive Program for the Scientific and Technical Progress of the USSR and the USSR State Committee for Science and Technology. For 11 years, from 1978 to 1989, Medvedev made a significant leap forward and achieved a lot. But the time was changing - and for Medvedev it was time to change the field of his activity.
Work in the field of business
In 1989, Alexander Ivanovich Medvedev received a serious appointment and became the director of Donau-Bank AG Sovzabranbank in Vienna, Austria. The enterprise was engaged in various operations with currency, securities and precious metals outside the USSR. A little later, Alexander Ivanovich also headed the subsidiary company of this bank, Inter Trade Consult GmbH. During this period, he actively develops new ties in Europe, and also strengthens professional relations established during his time at IMEMO.
In 1991, Medvedev became the head of IMAG Investment Management and Advisory Group GmbH, also located in Vienna. The company was involved in attracting financing to the Russian fuel and energy industry, and developed various projects for trade and project financing.
In 1997, he also decided to head the East Oil Company joint-stock company, but after a year he again focuses all his efforts only on working at IMAG. In Austria, in total, Medvedev worked for 5 years, but then he was called to his homeland.
Gazprom
In 2002, Medvedev received a new high appointment. He became the CEO of Gazpromโs energy export subsidiary. At the same time, he joined the board of Gazprom, the largest multinational corporation in the field of energy. It successfully implements large-scale projects for the development of gas resources in Russia, in particular, on the Yamal Peninsula, the Arctic shelf, the Far East, Eastern Siberia and other countries.
In 2006, the enterprise subordinated to Medvedev was transformed into Gazprom Export. He later became the second person in the main company, taking the post of Deputy Chairman of the Board Alexey Miller. Since 2006, Medvedev regularly flashes in the press. He is the official representative of Gazprom at the signing of a memorandum of understanding with the largest Italian oil and gas company Eni. Together, the gas giants were about to build and manage the South Stream gas pipeline. Within the framework of the project, it was planned to carry out a gas pipeline along the bottom of the Black Sea, so that gas would come from Russia to the Balkan Peninsula and to Austria. However, in this form, the project was never implemented.
Also in 2007, Alexander Medvedev represented Gazprom at the signing of an agreement on transferring the Kovykta gas condensate field from the TNK-BP concern to the Russian side. From 2006 to 2009, Medvedev became the main representative of the Russian side in negotiations on gas supplies and transit with Ukraine.
In 2009, Alexander Medvedev entered the prestigious list of โ100 Most Influential People of the Worldโ, which is annually compiled by the American Times.
KHL
In 2008, Gazprom became the main sponsor of the newly created Continental Hockey League, which brought together teams from Russia, Kazakhstan, Finland, Slovakia, Belarus, China and Latvia. Medvedev took an active part in the process of creating this organization, and in 2008 the president of the KHL, Alexander Medvedev, appeared.
He led the League until 2014. A lot has been done during this time. Medvedev was passionately rooting for his players, he spent a lot of time and energy on improving the situation in domestic hockey. He himself participated in veteran matches, was friends with many players, tried to make Russian hockey better. But in 2014, the leadership decides on his resignation and Dmitry Chernyshenko comes to replace Medvedev.
Parting with Gazprom
Alexander Ivanovich Medvedev, for whom Gazprom has become a serious place to realize his professional potential, since 2009 began to lose his influence in the company. At some point, Alexey Miller allows himself an open injection from his deputy: "Isnโt it too much for you, isnโt it hard?" Hinting that Medvedev has become too prominent in Gazprom.
For three years, Alexander Ivanovich lost almost all his power. Contracts for foreign projects related to field development and gas supplies are being changed hands. On the sidelines of Gazprom, they started talking about the fact that Medvedev was no longer in control of the situation, he let it go. Group revenue began to fall. The so-called "gas war" with Ukraine put the last point in the cooperation of Medvedev and Gazprom. In 2011, Alexander Ivanovich leaves the concern and Gazprom Export.
