How to make a brazier out of brick with your own hands?

In our article, you will learn how to make a beautiful and functional brazier out of brick with your own hands. Photos of structures and ordering schemes will also be given in the material. It should be noted that portable barbecues are good, but only in nature. If you prefer to cook barbecue exclusively at home, then it is much better to use stationary structures. By area, a barbecue made of bricks will take no more than 1-3 m 2 .

You can also install corner structures with a hob and hearth. Even the sink can be placed next to the barbecue. But the simplest barbecues, as you know, have only one thing - a hearth and a grate (you can do without it). Even an inexperienced bricklayer can cope with all the work - this is not a very complicated matter. Below we consider the most popular options for barbecues.

The simplest brick barbecue

As you know, any brick construction needs a foundation. And the barbecue is no exception. It is highly recommended not to install even the simplest types of barbecue on the soil. The use of slab and strip foundations is allowed. The first type is much better, since it is more reliable and with large temperature differences, the entire masonry will not fall apart.

The foundation should be larger than the size of the structure, about 10-15 cm. First you need to remove the top layer of soil. You may have to deepen the pit by 10-15 cm. The bottom must be flattened and tamped. Pour a layer of gravel on it (thickness about 10 cm). You ram again, and it is better to do this with a vibrating plate. Manually doing such a job is quite difficult. Please note that the strip foundation should have a height of about 25-30 cm. And the thickness of the slab is about 10 cm.

Features of the foundation

Install the formwork - its type depends on the type of foundation. To increase strength, it is necessary to reinforce with rods, the diameter of which is 10-12 mm. In the case of using a strip foundation, it is necessary to lay two tapes around the entire perimeter. When installing a slab foundation, you need to make a kind of cage. The rods are laid across and along with a step of 0.2 m. The filling is carried out with concrete made using cement grade M-200 and higher.

If the ambient temperature is over 20 degrees, then the foundation will gain strength in about a week. Only after a while you can start laying. After drying, it is necessary to lay waterproofing over the foundation (it is allowed to use any rolled material, even a banal roofing material). Then it is desirable to coat with a liquid waterproofing solution - bitumen-based mastic. Only after this can we begin construction.

A bit about materials and sizes

You can make a brick grill yourself, even if you do not have enough experience. This is a small structure, in shape resembles the letter "P". It has two main parts - a table and a roasting pan. The design is very simple and, if necessary, can be improved at any time. Suppose you add another section nearby, make protrusions under the grill, if you plan to cook a lot of meat.

Interesting barbecue design

It is necessary to rely on such dimensions during manufacture:

  1. Depth - about 0.9 m.
  2. Width - 1.8 m.
  3. Height - 1 m.

For the implementation of masonry, the use of ceramic brick or fireclay (mark -8) is allowed. On average, 202 bricks should go. Well, let's see how to make a beautiful barbecue on a summer house out of brick with your own hands.

Brazier masonry start

Brazier roaster

The lower part of the grill (up to the 5th row) is placed on a solution made of cement and sand. Proportion 1: 3, it is allowed to add one part of lime. But in the part where there will be high temperature, you need to use a different solution. It is made from clay and sand. The proportion depends directly on the quality of the clay (it can be oily, skinny, normal). The density of the solution should be normal - not very liquid, but not thick either.

Work order and order

This barbecue is built from bricks that are laid on the bed. Two rows of bricks protrude, they are laid across and serve as a support for the grid and the brazier. You can lay bricks on a narrow part (on a spoon), in this case the brazier will rise slightly higher. The lower part is used to store firewood or coal.

The rows need to be laid in the dressing, a slight displacement is necessary. This will require halves of bricks, which are easiest to cut with a grinder. The first six rows are the formation of the table and roasting pan. But the 7th and subsequent rows fit only in the part in which the grill is located directly. When laying, it is necessary to maintain the same joint thickness - about 5-8 mm.

Masonry Features

In order not to damage the geometry of the structure during installation, it is necessary to tighten the laces. Alignment of all rows occurs along them. But all bricks and rows must be controlled with the help of a level. Try to check more often with a plumb line (cord and weight) the verticality of all corners and walls. If you do not trust the plumb line, use the same level for this purpose. But pay attention to the fact that the simple plumb error is less than that of the construction level. And now in more detail about how to make a brazier out of brick with your own hands.

Fucking barbecue in the country

The stacking order is quite simple, but sometimes questions arise about drying. If the weather is dry, the barbecue should be “infused” for at least three days. Only after that it is allowed to kindle a fire in it. And then, you need to do this gradually. Day 2-3 you need to heat the roasting pan in a gentle mode, use only a small amount of thin wood. Only after such preparation can you start cooking kebabs.

But if rains are coming, and the canopy over the barbecue has not yet been erected, you will have to cover the building with oilcloth. The brazier should be stable for at least a week, only after that you can start drying. Plant a small fire, try not to maintain it very long. Dry for 3-4 days. After this period, you can begin to actively use the structure.

Brick grill in the gazebo

Now imagine that there is already a gazebo that you want to modernize a bit, namely, to put a beautiful and functional barbecue in it. And if you decide to put the brazier in the gazebo, the design proposed above will not be able to work fully, since all the smoke will be inside, right under the roof.

Barbecue masonry

In this case, you need to use designs with a chimney. If necessary, you can put a cauldron in a barbecue made of bricks. With your own hands, of course, you won’t make such an accessory, but you can buy it in the store without any problems.

Such a barbecue is much more difficult, but anyone can make it anyway. Of course, at first it is recommended to practice on simpler buildings. But in our design, which we will consider below, the arch is smooth, and it is very simple to make it. Especially if you have very little experience.

A bit about sizes and materials

This building does not differ in large dimensions:

  1. Depth is about 75 cm.
  2. Width 1.5 m.
  3. The height from the base to the edge of the pipe is 217.5 cm.

Sizes may vary slightly. For masonry walls are used ceramic full-bodied bricks. It is not necessary, but desirable, to use chamotte brick for laying the frypot (the same ShA-8 as in the previous example).

Cooking in the mana

The "cold" belt is the first 11 rows, counting from the base of the barbecue. For its masonry, a solution of cement and sand is used, a ratio of 1: 3. When laying the so-called "hot" belt, only a solution of clay and sand is used. The seam must be the same size - 5-7 mm. Even when making a stove in a brazier of brick with your own hands, it is necessary to observe the thickness of the seam.

The design of such a barbecue is divided into three "cold" compartments - they store firewood, coal, various household items. But the “hot” zone, which is above the 12th row, is already a brazier and a discharge pipe. A skewer or barbecue grill is placed in a roasting pan. It all depends on what preferences you have.

Brazier ordering in the gazebo

As you know, the presented order is a little more complicated, so you will have to give some explanations. The first row must be laid out on the same level with the floor of the gazebo. If the foundation is low, then you have to raise it a little "zero" next. Lay the bricks in such a way that a reliable foundation is obtained.

Next, you need to make the laying of four rows, their dressing is necessarily done. These rows will form the so-called “woodcutter”. There will be stored fuel for the grill. Three strips of metal must be laid on top of the fifth row (thickness not less than 3 mm, width 5 cm). They will serve as a support for the bricks of the next row. In masonry 6 and 7 rows there are no features. But you will not soon make a brazier of brick with your own hands, the instructions for the construction of the structure are quite long.

Attractive barbecue design

The 8th row of masonry forms two chambers for storing various household supplies. Constantly monitor the seams, they should not coincide with the lower rows. Only in this case will a strong and reliable wall be obtained. If necessary, bricks should be cut off with a grinder into suitable pieces. And now let's talk about how the upper part of the barbecue is formed.

Brazier roaster

Starting from the 11th row, it is not necessary to put a wall in the middle, but on top it is necessary to lay strips of metal on top. It is on them that the next row rests, which overlaps the compartment for household supplies. When laying 12 rows, one peculiarity must be taken into account - on the back wall, the bricks lie flat, and on the front part it is necessary that they protrude by 30 mm. All these requirements must be observed when installing do-it-yourself braziers of brick. The step-by-step instruction presented in our article allows you to reduce labor costs.

Row 13 is also continuous; it is precisely on it that the roasting pan will be placed in the future. The size of the row is slightly larger than the previous one. Now you can begin to form a “hot” zone - here the fire will burn with a blue flame. This zone has a slightly smaller size, and for greater resistance to fire it needs to be laid out with fireclay bricks. Be sure to place it on a narrow part.

Chamotte bricks have a slightly different size from ceramic, but you don’t need to pay attention to this trifle. The main thing is to observe the alternation when laying the furnace.

Pipe forming

When you get to row 21, you need to install a steel corner on top of it. Use of a stainless steel is allowed. Dimensions - 50x50 mm or 40x40. The length should be such that it lies from the middle of the left brick to the center of the right. It is this corner in the future that will serve as a support for the pipe. Without it, you can’t assemble a brazier from brick with your own hands. The photo in the article allows you to understand how the barbecue and chimney are formed.

The simplest barbecue

Row 22 is laid using fireclay bricks. Also here the front wall is already starting to appear (it also relies on a corner made of stainless steel). The size of the row is slightly larger - the bricks hang over the corner by 30 mm. The next row is even wider, and then you need to go to decrease. With each row, it is necessary to reduce the channel, so that by 30 a pipe is already fully formed. It should rise above the roof by at least 0.5 m.

Drying construction - at least a week. Only after this period can you begin to light a fire in the brazier. Now you know how to make a brazier of brick with your own hands. Photo orders perfectly illustrate the work.
