However, experts are mixed in assessing why the earthquake occurred in the Kemerovo region. Some are convinced that the cause of the tremors was atmospheric and natural phenomena, while others believe that the cataclysm arose because mining began to take place . Of course, there were many experts who believe that the tremors were caused by natural changes in the atmosphere. Scientists rated the magnitude of the phenomenon at seven points. The head of the local division of the geophysical service of the SB RAS Alexander Emanov considered the earthquake in the Kemerovo region the largest seismic event of the century.
“The area of technogenic impact is characterized by an abundance of curved strata of rocks, while the crust is simply weakened. The symbiosis of technogenic processes and natural phenomena caused a cataclysm, since it is a combination of the two above factors that is considered a dangerous situation, ”the expert said.
Alexander Emanov also added that this earthquake in the Kemerovo region is an extraordinary natural event, because tremors with a magnitude of more than four points were not observed in the above region.
“In the Kemerovo region, mining is constantly underway, as a result of which voids are formed, the existing load moves to the upper regions of the earth's crust. It is possible that a situation will arise when enormous tension will form in some layers, which will lead to earthquakes, ”said Alexei Zavyalov, who heads the laboratory for continental seismicity and the seismic hazard prediction of the Institute of Earth Physics, in an interview.
