In the 2016/17 season, as part of Monaco, Subašić became the champion of France. According to the results of this season, the Croat was recognized as the best goalkeeper of League 1.
The first goalkeeper in the national team
Daniel Subašić became the main goalkeeper of the Croatian national team in the fall of 2015, after Pletikosa announced the completion of his appearances in the national team. At the 2016 European Championship, Subašić defended the gates of the Croatian national team in all matches - three games of the group stage and 1/8 against future champions - the Portuguese national team (0: 1).
At the 2018 World Cup in Russia, Daniel Subasic was the main goalkeeper and became the best goalkeeper among all the teams - fans and fans will remember his beaten penalty kicks in the playoffs against Denmark and Russia for a long time to come. In the first two matches of the 2018 World Cup, he did not miss a single goal (against Nigeria 2: 0 and against Argentina 3: 0), thereby helping the Balkans to provide an exit from the group in advance. In the playoff stage of the 1/8 finals against the Danish national team, the game reached the penalty shoot-out (main score 1: 1), where Subašić showed excellent skill in repelling 11-meter shots. As a result, Croatia won with a score of 3: 2, and Daniel himself repeated the record of his compatriot Ricardo, holding on since 2006, blocking three hits of Danish football players.
Personal life
Daniel Subasic was born in an ordinary family, where his father, Jovo Subasic, was a Serb of the Orthodox faith from the village of Zagrad (near the town of Benkovac), and his mother, Boi, was a Croatian Catholic from the village of Rashtevich.
As the son of a Serb, Daniel receives too much criticism from Croatian fans. As you know, these peoples do not like each other to the marrow of bones, it happened historically, because in the period from 1991 to 1995 there were military conflicts caused by the withdrawal of Croatia from the former Yugoslavia. Subashic is not recognized by fans and fans of the Croatian national team, some players of the national team secretly adhere to the same opinion.

The next problems began when Subašić met his future wife Anthony. The girl’s father despised the Serbian people because of the events of the 90s, so the lovers had to meet secretly. One day, a future father-in-law found out that Daniel and Anthony were still together. He made a scandal of his daughter and severely beat her because she was dating the “Serb”. As a result, the future wife of Daniel Subasic had to flee with him from the country. They currently live in Monaco. The couple is about to have a baby. This was repeatedly stated in the media by Anthony and Daniel Subasic. “Children - this is why my heart will beat until old age,” - once declared the best goalkeeper of Croatia.
Daniel has repeatedly stated publicly that he has nothing to do with Serbia and is “a Croat of the Orthodox faith”.
The tragic story that haunts Subashich all his life: the death of his best friend and teammate Hrvo Chustich
In the life of Daniel, an accident occurred related to the death of his best friend and teammate from Zadar Hrvoi Chustich. It happened on March 29, 2008 in the match of the Croatian first league between Zdar and KNK Tsibalia. In the first minutes of the match, Chustich received a serious head injury after a collision with a concrete wall located about three meters from the side line of the football field. A second before, Hrvoj Chustich tried to take possession of the ball in a game against the defender of the opposing team. The players collided at high speed, as a result of which Chustich flew off into a concrete wall and hit his head.
The Croatian footballer was immediately taken to a local hospital, where they immediately had a many-hour operation. Khrvoe was in an artificial coma, his condition remained stable until April 2, 2008, but after the alleged infection caused a rapid increase in body temperature. The condition of the young striker sharply worsened. On the morning of April 3, doctors officially confirmed the death of Hrvoj Chustich. After his death, all Croatian leagues canceled scheduled matches for the weekend.
The death of a close friend greatly influenced the life of Daniel Subasic. In this incident, the goalkeeper blames only himself, explaining this by the fact that he could knock the ball to another flank, on which there was no Chustich. It is very clear here that this is just a game moment with a deplorable end, Subašić is not at all to blame, but he cannot explain this to himself. For each match, Daniel puts on a T-shirt under the uniform with the name and photo of his deceased friend, devoting all his victories and achievements to his memory.
I wanted to show the whole world what he is playing at the World Cup
After playing with Denmark at the 2018 World Cup, Daniel Subasic took off his goalkeeper uniform to show the image of his friend to the whole world. According to the rules of FIFA, this is prohibited, so the Croatian goalkeeper was given an official warning. This gesture is considered an expression of personal opinion, which is suppressed by the rules of the football federation, as well as political propaganda, religious views and so on. After the match with the Russian national team, which ended with the Croatian victory in the penalty shoot-out, Subašić went to the fans to take off his T-shirt again and show his friend’s portrait again, but Croatian employee Iva Oliveri stopped him, who he subsequently hugged.
