Scutellaria baicalensis is a herbaceous plant, its height is from 15 to 35 centimeters. In medicine, the root of the specified plant is mainly used; it is a part of such preparations as Quinery, Alpha 20C, Slim Caps and many others. Scutellaria baicalensis has flowers that are located only on one side of the stem, and their corollas look like a helmet. That is why the plant got its name.
This plant loves rocky slopes and is located on the banks of rivers. Its roots contain glycosides, vakhonin and baikalite, essential oil, tannins, starch, asteroid saponins, alkaloids, resins. During flowering, their number decreases, and during fruit ripening reaches its maximum. The larger the plant, the more active substances it contains.
Harvesting rhizomes is carried out in autumn and spring. After the roots have been dug up, they are cleaned of dirt and dried. Applied in raw form, you can also fry them or stew in wine.
Scutellaria baicalensis - application
The main useful quality of this plant is its ability to regulate blood pressure. Preparations, which include Scutellaria baicalensis, help to expand blood vessels, slow down heart contractions, pass insomnia and headache, lower blood pressure, prevent the occurrence of seizures, and decrease the activity of the nervous system.
The tincture from the roots of this plant has a hypotensive and sedative property and is used in the treatment of hypertension, insomnia, disorders of the nervous system, cardiovascular neurosis, toxicosis during pregnancy and strychnine poisoning. Scutellaria tincture is also used in the presence of increased excitability. It restores sleep, relieves pain in the heart and headaches.
Scutellaria baicalensis also has a laxative and choleretic property, therefore it is effective in treating the liver and restoring the gastrointestinal tract.
This plant is widely used to reduce fever in diseases of the digestive and respiratory systems, and it also helps to treat skin infections and urinary tract infections.
Indications for use:
- diarrhea and dysentery, treatment of jaundice;
- the presence of cough and other diseases of the respiratory system;
- the presence of various inflammations and abscesses on the skin of the body;
- the presence of nosebleeds;
- increased nervous and emotional state of the body, hysteria, epilepsy and nervous exhaustion;
- insomnia;
- high blood pressure of neurogenic origin;
- Premenstrual tension syndrome and many other diseases.
Baikal Scutellaria is widely used in the treatment of diseases such as lymphosarcoma, epilepsy, insomnia, neuroma, pneumonia, neuroblastoma, myocardial infarction, stomach cancer, leukemia, lymphogranulomatosis, papilloma, kidney cancer, rheumatism, liver cancer, bronchitis.
Tincture of this plant is taken as a sedative. For its preparation, a spoon of grass is taken and half a liter of boiling water is poured. It is necessary to insist for about two hours, after which it is filtered and taken half a glass before meals.
A decoction of Scutellaria baicalensis is usually prepared using other medicinal herbs, such as Canadian yellow root or Chinese smokethorn. It is taken in the presence of infectious diseases, as well as diseases of the respiratory, digestive and genitourinary systems. To effectively reduce pressure, you need to take this decoction along with decoctions of herbs that are similar in properties, for example, along with Chinese chrysanthemum.
Contraindications: individual intolerance, hypotension, lactation.
