DIY screen - beautiful, functional, stylish

A screen as an element of interior decoration was very widely used in the countries of the east. Elegant mobile partitions made of precious woods, decorated with screens of the finest silk and translucent rice paper with fantasy paintings in the form of exotic birds, fancy flowers and landscapes were quite functional, dividing the room into several zones. In Western Europe, interest in the screen was manifested along with a passion for oriental culture and art. The sophisticated eighteenth century took this type of furniture decor with pleasure, because with the help of a screen it was possible to create cozy corners hidden from prying eyes for privacy.

In the modern interior, the screen has not lost its functional purpose, on the contrary, made in the same style with the general space of the room, it can become a very convenient, simple and easy way to divide it into zones. For example, using a screen, you can select a working or sleeping area in a common room, equip a children's corner or an impromptu winter garden.

A self-made screen can become an original decorative “stain” in the interior, attracting attention and being the central link in the whole style decision. As a rule, this functional item consists of several wooden, plastic, metal forged frames or solid elements interconnected by hinge loops. Frames and details of the screen are decorated in a variety of ways. Here the manifestation of fantasy can be limitless. How to make a screen?

The most difficult part in its manufacture is, in fact, frame frames. The easiest way is to make them out of wooden blocks by combining with the help of screws, glue and the classic method of joining wooden parts "tenon groove". For the manufacture of frames you will need certain skills and abilities in the carpentry. If there are none, you should consult a specialist. Three wooden frames will cost quite inexpensively, but they will be solid high-quality products. In addition to wooden, forged elements of the screen are also possible. They can be ordered in specialized workshops. The wooden frame before being decorated with a cloth is covered with several layers of colored paint laid on a primer layer.

After the frame is ready, the screen is decorated with your own hands using various techniques.

1. A fairly simple way - decorating from a transparent fabric, very well stretched over the frames and decorated with large applications of colored silk. To do this, you need to carve three parts of nylon or organza in height and width of the frame. Then, from colored silk, cut out applications from flowers and leaves. Duplicate each element of the pattern with a thin double-sided adhesive web. Then lay them out on a fabric-based fabric and iron them through a layer of fine cotton. Glue dubbing must be cut very carefully, strictly along the lines of the pattern, so that the applique adheres efficiently and evenly. After that, with the help of a construction stapler, the fabric is stretched over the frames.

2. Beautiful decor is obtained from a transparent organza, on which pockets are sewn. You can put dried flowers and leaves, beautiful moss, twisted roots or thin branches of plants, decorative spikelets and shells in each pocket. Such a screen would be a good fence for a green corner in the room. By the way, sewn pockets can also be used as places for storing various trifles. So, a screen, made with one's own hands, will play another functional role in the room.

3. Solid wood panel panels can be very beautifully decorated using decoupage technique. Colored clippings from magazines depicting flowers, birds, or reproductions from paintings by great masters are glued to the surface and covered with craquelure lacquer, which creates the effect of antiquity. If one picture in size is not enough, stick a few and delimit them with thin wooden strips. In addition to decoupage, use gold or silver spraying, beautiful loops, then the screen will take on an expensive, sophisticated look.

4. Do-it-yourself screens can be decorated with colored nylon and satin ribbons, which with the help of a regular plain direct weave will fill the entire hole in the frame. You can complement this decor with bright buttons, large beads, sockets from the same ribbons. Such a screen would be a wonderful addition to the room of a young romantic girl.

5. Finally, a screen made by one’s own hands can play the role of an original decorative lamp, if one uses light luminous garlands assembled from small light bulbs or narrow long fluorescent lamps that can be easily hidden behind fabric or translucent paper.
