Krupskaya Confectionery Factory is one of the oldest in Russia. Geographically, it is located in the Vladimir District of St. Petersburg. Chocolate "Krupskaya" is known throughout the country and even abroad. Varieties such as "Special" or "Bear in the North", loved by many since childhood.
From the depths of history
Krupskaya Confectionery Factory opened in 1938. Shortly before this, a decree was issued by the People’s Committee of the Food Industry of the USSR to establish an enterprise specializing in the manufacture of chocolate and chocolate products on the basis of a kitchen factory. The new factory was named after the wife of the leader of the peoples Nadezhda Konstantinovna Krupskaya.
When the Great Patriotic War came, production at this enterprise did not stop. All products went to front-line needs, often made from saved raw materials and substitutes. From 1941 to 1943 more than three thousand tons of Bear in the North candies were produced. After perestroika, this brand will become a trademark of the factory.
For residents of the city who were in the blockade, coniferous tincture was made according to a special recipe. She was able to maintain strength in the body. The peers of the terrible blockade to this day remember the Krupskaya chocolate called Cola. It is also worth paying tribute to the invention of the war years - "Michurinsky" sweets, which quickly gained popularity among St. Petersburg residents. For shock work, the Krupskaya factory was included in the Book of Honor of the city.
The era of the USSR and perestroika
The peak of prosperity of this confectionery factory occurred in the period of the USSR, after in 1956 it was awarded the title "Enterprise of high quality". At this time, its products were popular and appreciated in all corners of the state. The factory was a leader in the list of food enterprises in the country.
At the beginning of perestroika, a privatization program opened, because of this the factory became a joint-stock company. Confectionery production declined here. Later, in 1996, there was a complete reconstruction and modernization of the confectionery shop. In the future, this allowed us to diversify the assortment of manufactured products and reach a new level.
In 2006, the Norwegian company Orkla bought back three-quarters of the company’s shares, a few years later it merged with the SladKo confectionery factory. In 2015, Orkla sold all 100% of its shares to the Russian holding Slavyanka.

Chocolate "Krupskaya" - a visiting card of the Northern capital
Chocolate products in the factory are available in a wide range. This “Squirrel”, and “Vernissage”, and Estet, and “Bear in the North”, and, of course, “Special” chocolate. He should pay special attention.
The highlight of this product is that its composition has a certain percentage of salt. Chocolate "Krupskaya" is very similar to foreign analogues Lindt and Ghirardelli. A significant difference is that foreign tiles have a pronounced salty aftertaste. Nowadays, you will not surprise anyone with salty chocolate. True, if you take into account the "date of birth" of chocolate, and this is 1987, it is truly special.
The wrapper has an interesting design. There is no unnecessary information on it, only the factory logo and name. And the white circles on the wrapper seem to be a symbol of salt. Rumor has it that the name "Salty" was originally planned, but to this day everyone knows this product as "Special" chocolate. The tile is rather unusual in shape: alternating slices with slanted lines and slices with the manufacturer's logo. In 2012, chocolate turned 25 years old, and this is a solid "age".
Keeping up with the times
The factory reverently keeps the manufacturing traditions, because more than one generation has grown up on these confectionery products. But production goes with the times, modern equipment appears. By the way, the manual production process for the manufacture of luxury and souvenir pieces is still used.
The assortment is replenished annually, new types of products are developed and produced. The “Bear in the North” candy now has “relatives”: milk chocolate and a chocolate bar with a teddy bear on the packaging.
The priority of the company is not only the expansion of the range and increase sales, but also compliance with the oldest recipes. Young pastry chefs are trained by experienced craftsmen, so skill is passed on to the younger generation. Chocolate "Krupskaya" and other sweet products retained not only the name, but also the taste. Having removed a candy wrapper, everyone can feel the taste of childhood forgotten by many.
