This year, celebrating Victory Day, the townspeople gathered around the monument to the heroes of the war. In the night sky, luminous points flashed high above him, one after another, each point rising slightly above the previous one. So they formed a whole series.
These were flying Chinese lanterns, which residents did not purchase, but specially made with their own hands for the holiday. And since you will rarely find them on sale (by the way, they are inexpensive - wholesale 45 rubles, retail - 60 rubles), I had to look for information on how to make a flying flashlight.
It turned out that the technique is one and quite simple. If we lived at the beginning of our era, we would need rice paper, a bamboo hoop and a candle to raise a flashlight into the sky. Surely we would do this not for beauty and out of indulgence, but to convey important information about the conduct of the battle.
Over time, when the wars subsided, Chinese lanterns became a symbol of hope. How to make a flying Chinese lantern: instructions
- Harvest the dome. Suitable garbage bags, always plastic, thin and very light, more than 30 liters in volume. The larger the bag, the less likely it will catch fire and the more likely that the flashlight will fly. We cut off the bottom of one package and glue it together with another tape (one bottom should remain on two packages).
- From a thin wire we construct a frame, which we later attach not to the bottom of the bag, but to its open part. Inside the bag, the frame does not need to be made, it must be light so that it can then rise to the sky. Although the bag may sink into the flame at an unnecessary moment. To prevent this, prepare the wire for placement inside the bag, but only one, bending it at the bottom, with a diameter equal to the size of the bottom.
- We attach a piece of foil at the place of crossing the lower rods, folding it in the form of a cup (or a light box from under a candle). In the center of the glass we put cotton wool soaked in alcohol.
- And only then we pull the bag onto the frame, attaching it also with adhesive tape from the inside.
In the same way, we procure the following flying flashlights with our own hands. But it’s better to try starting your first flashlight first to make sure everything is done right.

Before "sending" the flashlight into the air:
- we fill the dome with air, simply lifting it and sharply lowering it;
- carefully set fire to the fuel (fleece) in the cup, hold the dome if it does not have wire;
- we wait a bit (2-3 minutes) so that the air under the dome warms up from the flame;
- as soon as it is heated, the flashlight will begin to come off the ground, it remains only not to interfere with it. Keep in mind that at first it will not rise high, only after warming up all the air under the bag it will rise into the sky. No need to push the flashlight, it will fly by itself.
It may not rise due to heavy weight. Do not despair, re-read the instructions on how to make a flying flashlight, take a thinner wire (or a larger bag, or a smaller cotton wool) and try again.
As a responsible person, think about safety measures, do not start the flashlight near wires, wooden buildings, in strong winds (over 5 m per second). Do not leave children alone to launch it into the sky.
