In the summer of 2017, Andrei Drachev was gone. Multiple winner of various championships, the winner of the “silver” of the World Championship in powerlifting tragically died in a street brawl. At that time, the athlete was only 32 years old, but the biography of Andrei Drachev is already inscribed in the history of world powerlifting.

Childhood and youth

January 18, 1985 in Khabarovsk in the family of a master of sports in powerlifting Konstantin Drachev was born a son, who was named Andrei. Soon the family left their former place of residence. Sports origins in the biography of Andrey Drachev originate in the city of Raichikhinsk, Amur Region. The boy spends early childhood and school years in this small town. Thanks to the example of his father, a participant in the world championship in Canada, in the early 90's, Andrei began to play sports intensively and saw himself in powerlifting. At that time, powerlifting was recognized as an official sport, which since 1990 has been supported by the autonomous Powerlifting Federation of the USSR. The development of the sport on such a scale and intensive training promised Andrei a brilliant sporting future.

After school, Andrei entered the Social and Humanitarian Institute in Khabarovsk. In parallel with his studies, the young man continued to play sports, now under the guidance of the honored trainer, USSR master of sports in weightlifting Vladimir Mulin.

The industriousness, persistence of Drachev and the patronage of the eminent coach Mulin soon brought the first fruits. In 2005, in Kemerovo, Andrei won the bronze medal at the Russian Junior Powerlifting Championship. For three years, Drachev regained his knee and became the absolute champion of the Open Cup of the Far East in bodybuilding. Andrei was a very sociable and friendly person, had many friends, mainly from among the same athletes. In his free time from training and work, Drachev enjoyed meeting with his company of like-minded people. Not without entertainment with alcohol. The next meeting was scheduled at the Gallery cafe, which turned into the murder of Andrei Drachev.

As the athlete’s friend said, that unfortunate evening a certain company from a neighboring cafe repeatedly tried to spoil the evening with the vacationers. After another skirmish, Andrei went out on the street to deal with the conflicting side and proposed to solve all men's issues in the ring in an honest sports match, since all the participants were intoxicated. But the conversation continued with a fight. A conflict of young people fell on the surveillance cameras, where it is clear that one of the company blows Andrei with a blow to the head, followed by several more blows to the head, and Drachev remains unconscious. An ambulance arrives and takes Andrei, but unfortunately, the athlete no longer regains consciousness from a traumatic brain injury

Investigation and defendants in the case

The main suspect in the murder was Anar Allahveranov, a 25-year-old native of Amursk, who fled the scene of the crime. First, a criminal case was opened under the article “Severe injury to health, resulting in death by negligence”. Later, the TFR in the region, having studied the video recording, eyewitness accounts and clarified information about the identity of the suspect (the offender was a professional MMA fighter), changed the article to “Aggravating murder from hooligan motives” of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation. This article threatens life imprisonment. Allahveranov was hiding from justice and He was put on the federal wanted list, but a month after the tragedy he confessed to the Investigative Committee. Now the accused is in jail. Other participants in the fateful event are also involved in the case: iki departmental services, protection of the two institutions, which at the time of the fight did not attempt to prevent the murder of Andrei Dracheva.

Farewell to the athlete took place in the Transfiguration Cathedral on August 24. Andrei Drachev is buried in the main Khabarovsk cemetery.
