The Brazilian Embassy in Moscow oversees all aspects of bilateral diplomatic relations with Russia. The official mission of the South American country represents the position of the Brazilian leadership and brings it to the Russian leadership.
History of the Brazilian Embassy in Moscow
Despite the fact that for the first time diplomatic relations between Brazil and Russia were established in 1828, a permanent mission appeared only in 1945. Throughout the entire period of Russian-Brazilian relations, there was tension caused by the fears of the leadership of the Latin American state before the “export of revolution”.
Until the late 1980s, tough, politically motivated censorship operated in Brazil. Because of it, the circulation of books was limited, the content of which was recognized as revolutionary.
In such circumstances, the embassy functioned only within the framework of industries of minimal importance, practically eliminating pressing political issues. But commercial cooperation was on top, and trade reached 835 million US dollars.
Historical mansion
Today, the Brazilian embassy in Russia is located in Moscow on Bolshaya Nikitskaya Street, 54, occupying a spacious historic mansion built in 1875 by order of the famous Moscow merchant Anna Vasilievna Lopatina.
The mansion is an object of cultural heritage and is a unique example of a pseudo-Russian style. Polychrome masonry walls are decorated with a varied multi-colored decor: platbands, columns, panels and whole cascades of tiles.
It is worth saying that the address of the Brazilian embassy in Moscow has remained unchanged for several decades.
The current state of relations
The foundation of modern bilateral relations was laid in the early 2000s by the signing of several long-term agreements between the top leaders of the countries that determined the direction of development.
As a result, countries have made significant progress in traditionally difficult relationships. For example, an agreement was reached on visa-free visits to each other's territories for tourism purposes. Since then, the volume of interstate trade is only growing.
