What is a Buddhist beach? Where is he located? You will find answers to these and other questions in the article. The beach of Big Buddha is probably the most calm and at the same time mysterious throughout the island of Koh Samui. So what is this Buddhist beach good for?
Official name
It is known that Koh Samui is located in the Pacific Ocean, in the Gulf of Thailand. This is the second largest island in Thailand after Phuket. The official name of the Buddhist beach, located on it, sounds like "Big Cancer." But since there is a well-known place of religious pilgrimage - the Buddha statue on its lands - it is often called in honor of this attraction. Some people call the beach "Big Buddha."
Beach description
If you want to escape from the hustle and bustle, go to a Buddhist beach. There is quite a secluded and quiet place, at the same time, from here you can quickly get to the popular beaches of Koh Samui, where you can have fun if peace and silence become a burden.
From the middle of the Big Cancer beach is only 10 min. driving on the road (or 1 km in a straight line) to the airport and 20 minutes. (or 5 km) to Chaweng Beach. Fisherman's Village (Bophut Beach) is generally walkable.
This territory of the island of Koh Samui for some reason, Russian travelers is still underestimated. But there are a large number of excellent houses, magnificent landscapes, developed infrastructure.
Few know where the Buddhist beach is. It is located in the northeast of Koh Samui, in the same bay as Bophut, but in its eastern part. These two beaches are separated by a small cape.
If in the Bophut area at the traffic light at the traffic light, turn in the direction of the arrow in the direction of the sea, always go along the main highway, then further along the entire route you will first see the sandy coast of Bophut, then the Big Buddha.
The statue
In the photo, the Buddhist beach looks great. The Big Buddha statue is located on the hill of Fan Island, which is connected to Samui by a special route. The statue plays in the sun with golden rays, its height is 12 m. Add to this the hill on which it was installed more than 30 years ago, and you will understand why it is so clearly visible.
Even from an airliner landing or taking off over this area, it can be perfectly seen. You can also see tourists who climb the hill and enjoy views of the Phangan island and the beaches of Bophut and Big Buddha. They climb the hill in order to be closer to the Buddha.
Tourists knock with a mallet on the "bells" hung around the perimeter of the base of the statue, photograph the temple located here, at the foot of the stairs leading up, and the locals who came to the monks.
Purchases
There are also a lot of shops that tourists like to walk around. Here you can find a souvenir for every purse and taste. It can be wooden, made of silver, leather, precious stones, belong to the culture of farang or have a religious orientation. Everyone can buy a disc with music here, which is heard from everywhere in the complex.
Near the beach there is an impressive fish market. If you buy seafood here, then for a small surcharge they will be made in any of Thai cafes as you wish. Or they will offer their own version, which for sure you will like.
Nuances
Most of the Big Buddha beach is a little well-groomed, semi-wild place. The sand here is yellowish and coarse-grained (the same as on the “Boput”), and the depth only in the center is sufficient to swim comfortably.
On both sides of the beach, the shallow water zone is significant, it is very noticeable during low tides. A deeper area is reserved for piers, where there are boats and boats leaving for Koh Phangan (parties are held there). The water here is calm, because the bay is reliably protected from unrest at sea.
Many of the local tourists are independent poor travelers. However, every year more and more families come here who value comfort, cosiness and peace, who are ready to rent a house for a long time.
