DIY welding table: photos, drawings

Building a structure like a do-it-yourself welding table is the right solution. Thanks to this you will get a place to work and practice. It should be noted that for the manufacture of devices it is better to take metal. Wood will not work, as it is highly flammable.

Where to place a welding table with your own hands? In the garage they put it most often. The metal structure has many advantages. For example, grounding can be installed on it, which provides the master with safety.

Welding table functions

Do-it-yourself welding table has a unified design. He is:

  • a plane for work, in which there are clamps for workpieces;
  • ground loop.

What tools and accessories will be needed?

Many are interested in how to make a welding table with your own hands. This article will describe the process technology. An important point is the preparation of the necessary tools and devices.

How to make a welding table with your own hands

You will need:

  • electric welding machine with all accessories (electric cables, clamps, electrodes, etc.);
  • pliers;
  • roulette;
  • a piece of chalk;
  • ruler;
  • hammer;
  • three C-shaped clamps;
  • a hacksaw for working with metal for cuts at the right angle (preferably using an electric grinder);
  • regular square;
  • angle for carpentry;
  • nippers;
  • tap to create an M8 thread;
  • a machine for milling or turning (it will be needed for chamfering parts).

Do it yourself in a different way. There are two product models.

First option

A do-it-yourself welding table, the photo of which is presented below, has dimensions 1100x660x900 mm. So that the design does not turn out too expensive and heavy, it is made of thick plywood sheet. Subsequently, it is covered with a plate of metal.

What materials will be required?

You will need:

  • profile pipe 40x20x2 mm - 9.9 m;
  • steel strip measuring 40x4 mm - 2.0 m;
  • four M8x40 bolts and four M8-6 nuts for fastening;
  • one sheet of steel 1100x650x2 mm;
  • one sheet of plywood 1220x1220x10 mm.

All materials must be free of corrosion. If there is rust, then the surface should be sanded. In order to make a welding table with your own hands, drawings are required.

Blanks

From a profile pipe with a size of 40x20x2 mm, workpieces are cut:

  • for the frame of legs and lintels - two parts of 1.1 m each, two parts of 0.66 m, four blanks of 0.9 m each, one part of 0.58 m;
  • two blanks for leg jumpers of 0.58 m each;
  • one piece for a 1.02 m long foot bridge.

Chamfers are removed by means of a milling or turning machine.

Welding worktop frames

  • The components from the profile pipe, necessary for welding the frame, are located and fixed by means of C-shaped clamps.
  • The frame is a rectangle with a jumper. To check the correct assembly, we recommend measuring the two diagonals of the rectangle. Permissible error is not more than 1 mm.
  • Blanks for the frame are connected. First, a rectangle is welded, and then a jumper. First, an engaging seam is used, then a continuous seam.
  • Protective treatment is carried out by a grinder.

How to finish countertops?

  • The corners of the frame are reinforced by pads. For the purpose of fixing the legs and other attachments, a 40x4 mm strip is used. Chamfers are removed. Finished parts are welded from the bottom to the corners.
  • To fix the legs, it is necessary to weld the strips from the strip. Drill holes D <6 mm in the legs with a drill, then make similar holes D = 6.7 mm in the frame using them and cut the M8 thread. They should be attached, then welded side rails.
  • From the plywood sheet you need to cut the countertop. It is covered with a sheet of steel. If necessary, layers are attached.
  • We recommend that all welds be treated with anti-rust compound.
  • Such a design as a home-made welding table with your own hands can be given a modern look. This is achieved thanks to attached wheels. So the device will be easier to move. The wheels must be equipped with locking devices. On the table, you need to install additional parts to fix the workpieces. A welding torch holder can be welded to the upper corner. It can be made from a pipe of the desired diameter.

This design is quite large. It is suitable for welding large items.

Second option

A do-it-yourself welding table can be made differently. The second model has a size of 445x750x915 mm. This design is compact.

The right material

  • Two plates 445x750x3 mm.
  • Four squares 25x25x3 mm long 76 cm (their angle should be 45 degrees).
  • Four corners 32x32x3 mm long 91.5 cm.
  • One pipe D = 3 cm, the length of which is 7.5 cm.
  • Four threaded wheel supports.
  • Four nuts for bearings.
  • Four nuts for connection.
  • Four lock washers.

Work stages

  • The frames of the countertop and the second shelf are welded. Two identical rectangles of 76 and 46 cm are prepared.
  • Dimensions are checked. Permissible error is 1 mm.
  • A gripping seam welds the details for the frame.
  • The geometry is checked.
  • After that, all the parts are welded with the main seam.
  • A countertop and a second shelf are welded. First, the connection is made by a sewing seam, and then continuous.
  • Legs are welded to the frame. Their fixation is performed using clamps. They are mounted at an angle of 90 degrees. Joints are welded with a spot seam.
  • In a similar way, the legs are attached to the second shelf, located at a distance of 70 cm from the countertop. After checking the geometric correctness, continuous seams are performed.
  • Wheel bearings are mounted.
  • A welding torch lock is installed in the corner. A pipe D = 3 cm is used, the length of which is 7.5 cm.

What precautions exist?

Everyone knows that welding involves a certain amount of risk. To protect yourself from any troubles, you should follow a number of important recommendations:

  • It is necessary to ensure full ventilation of the place of work. It is advisable to install exhaust ventilation.
  • Avoid electric shock. For this purpose, work should only be done with rubber gloves and make sure that they are not wet.
  • Eyes must be protected from arc glow. For this purpose, we recommend the use of helmets and glasses.
  • Spatter from metal should not get on the desktop. Before welding, clean the work area from debris. Particularly hazardous particles are those subject to slight ignition. If the work is carried out in a garage, then there should not be containers with paint, containers with fuel nearby.

There are also special protective equipment, without which the work is not recommended.
