The first mention of tennis was found in the 11th century BC. e., although what was then, still a little like modern tennis. Then tennis did not have its modern attributes: ball, net, racket. But, like any sport, in the process of evolution it acquired everything that is present in it today. Tennis gained its popularity and penetrated all over the world. And in 1896, at the Summer Olympics, this sport fell into the competition program. Today it is one of the developed sports in the world, in which, undoubtedly, there are heroes. For example, Monica Seles, Maria Sharapova, Steffi Graf are athletes who have already made a name for themselves and are known all over the world. But modern youth do not lag behind their older comrades: Gavrilova Daria, Govortsova Olga and Belinda Benchich. Today we will talk in more detail about the Belarusian athlete Olga Govortsova.
Childhood
The Govortsov family living in Pinsk (USSR, now Belarus) had a joyful event on August 23, 1988: their daughter Olga was born. For the parents of Olga, Tatyana and Andrey, she is the only daughter in the family, but they also have two sons - Ilya and Alexander. Parents took care of the girl and at 6 years old decided to attract her to the sport. Their choice fell on tennis - so they themselves, without suspecting it, determined the fate of their daughter.
Youth
Already at the age of 14, Olga began performing at professional tournaments. The first one was the international ITF tournament. After participating in this competition in the same year, Govortsova Olga became the winner of the Orange Bowl. This was followed by the first victory in the ITF tournament in doubles, held in Ramat Hasharon (Israel). Govortsova Olga performed in tandem with Victoria Azarenka. At the same tournament, Olga enters the final stage of the singles. The following year, the Azarenko-Govortsov pair won at Wimbledon.
Adult career
By 2007, such a name as Olga Govortsova began to gain popularity in the tennis world. Tennis then became a guide for the girl in life, and the Belarusian athlete, who won several major tournaments in her youth, decided to continue her career in adult tennis.
In 2007, Olga, thanks to her victory in the singles at the ITF tournament, falls into the top 50 best tennis players of the single category.
In 2008, Olga reached the WTA tournament. The semifinal brought Govortsova with the 18th racket of the world by Israeli Shahar Peer. The Belarusian coped with the Israeli and reached the final, but Olga was disappointed there. Lindsia Davenport took her victory. A few weeks later, Olga Govortsova took part in the WTA doubles tournament, held in Charleston. A pair of her then was a Romanian athlete Edina Gallovits. In 1/4, Olga and Edina defeated a couple of Quet Pawn - Renne Stubbs and reached the semifinals. 1/2 finals brought the Govortsova-Gallowitz duet with a pair of Kara Black - Liesel Huber. In this contest, luck was on the side of the Belarusian-Romanian team. In the final, Olga Govortsova and her partner lost to Katarina Srebotnik and Ai Sugiyama.
Four weeks later, Olga Govortsova hosted the WTA doubles tournament. The company was Belarusian Belorussian American Jill Kreibs. The pair reached the final and won.
For the Beijing Olympics, Olga Govortsova took 35th place in the world ranking. In singles, Olga lost in the first round to the inimitable Serena Williams. In the doubles, the Belarusian couple Govortsova-Kustova reached the second round, where she lost to the Ukrainian sisters Bondarenko.
Tournament Finals
The year 2009 was for Govortsova rich in trophies in the WTA doubles. At tournaments in Guangzhou and Tashkent, Olga wins 2 WTA championships. The last singles competition in 2009 was the Kremlin Cup, where, reaching the finals, Olga Gvortsova lost to Italian athlete Francesca Schiavone.
In the period from 2010 to 2015, Olga only twice reached the finals in tournaments under the auspices of the WTA. Its best result in singles during this time was the exit to the 4th round of the Grand Slam tournament, held in Wimbledon. The Belarusian came up to this tournament with 122nd place in the world singles ranking.
In doubles during this period, she won 8 WTA tournaments. And another 5 times the duet with Govortsova participated in the finals. In 2010, she won the Chinese Open. Govortsova's partner was Chinese Zhuang Jiaong. In 2011, Olga took the 24th line in the world ranking in doubles. This achievement was the best in his career. This year was also remembered by the team of Belarus, which included Govortsova, in the II World Group of the Federation Cup. However, the next year the team lost its leading position. In 2015, in a duet with Azarenko Govortsova, having won the Japanese couple in the playoffs, she regained the lead in her team.
Personal and non-sports life
Olga Govortsova in childhood, in parallel with tennis, was engaged in rhythmic gymnastics. But when the choice arose, she chose tennis. For a long time Olgaโs coach was brother Ilya.
