History of creation
It used to be completely different. The UAZ "Loaf" was produced from 1958 to 1965. This was a very important development for the Ulyanovsk plant and the entire domestic automobile industry as a whole. This car is often compared to the people with a loaf of bread, hence the name.
In the early 50s, it turned out that the United States would certainly attack the USSR. Such a nuclear future began to be perceived as something inevitable. The question was which country would be better prepared for such an outcome.
At the Ulyanovsk plant, which was a real branch of GAZ during the Second World War, GAZ 69 was produced. And suddenly the enterprise receives an urgent order. Engineers had to develop a convenient car for the needs of the removal of the wounded from the lesion site.
Now this version is perceived as delirious, but those of the developers who are still alive claim that this is so. In the usual UAZ 450, in addition to the driver and two passengers, it was possible to mount five stretchers.
Made in USSR
In the second half of the 50s, they began to understand that the apocalypse was being canceled. But development work has already begun, and the car came in handy at home. After all, this is a real all-wheel drive van of the car layout.
The base for the UAZ "Loaf" was the GAZ 69 chassis. From above, a completely original case was developed on the platform, developed by the designers of the plant. They say that the car got this name back at the factory. That is what the testers called her.
