Currently, the requirements for flooring in the garage are not as high as in residential premises. These criteria, as a rule, include: increased strength to mechanical damage, resistance to chemicals, abrasion resistance, water resistance and fire safety. All these requirements should be considered if you undertook to make the floor in the garage with your own hands. In many cases, clay or rammed earth is used as the floor in the specified room, but wood or concrete coatings will have undeniable advantages. Consider these varieties in more detail.
How to make a concrete garage floor ?
Before you start pouring this type of coating, you should prepare the surface. To do this, over the entire pouring area to a depth of 20 cm, a recess is made in the soil, the surface of which is leveled and, if the soil has a loose structure, tamped. Then, the prepared foundation pit is lined with plastic wrap, leaving an overlap on the walls of the garage. This is done for high-quality waterproofing. The film is covered with sand or gravel. You can immediately warm the floor using sheet foam. At the next stage, guides are installed, which must be brought out using the building level in the horizontal plane to achieve a smooth surface of the coating. Before installation, they are lubricated with engine oil. If the screed will have a thickness of more than 20 cm, then it should be reinforced to prevent cracking. Upon completion of these works, the floor is poured in the garage.

This process is concrete pouring and its alignment with the rule along the guides. Then it is rubbed with a grater with the addition of water until a uniform, smooth surface is obtained and left to dry for two to three days. After the screed has dried, it is covered with liquid glass or paint to prevent the formation of dust.
DIY wooden floor in the garage
These coatings have an advantage over concrete, they are warmer. Such a floor in the garage, made with your own hands , will look great, it will be more pleasant to carry out repairs and inspection of the car on it. Warming of this coating is much easier to do. To do this, simply fill the space between the lags with a heater. But wooden floors also have their drawbacks - this is the high combustibility of wood and its susceptibility to decay. To prevent this negative effect, the wood is impregnated with a special antiseptic or used motor oil.
Wooden floors (compared to concrete) are less durable, since the weight of the car will not be distributed evenly over the entire floor area, but on 2-3 boards. We conclude: before installing this coating, select high-quality and strong boards, so that over time the floor is often not repaired.
How to make the floor in the garage with your own hands is up to you, but in any case it should be understood that it must meet the criteria for it and be durable. These requirements are achievable if you responsibly approach the installation and not save on materials.
