Growing quail is a rather troublesome affair. Young individuals differ from chicks of other similar species of poultry, for example, chickens or guinea fowl, in their restlessness and excessive activity. Therefore, it can be quite problematic to provide them with constantly clean water. Consider how to make a drinker for quail at home with your own hands. We use the available material, which is always available on the farm - a plastic bottle.
Quail drinker: basic requirements
It is especially important to keep the chicks clean during the first 2-3 weeks after hatching. It is undesirable to use open containers for drinking, because, actively moving, young growth pollutes water, which in a warm environment promotes the growth of pathogenic and dangerous bacteria and microorganisms. The organization of feed supply on poultry farms involves the use of automatic mode. In home-grown poultry, similar home-made drinkers for quail are often used. For their manufacture, the most affordable material is suitable - a plastic bottle. Below are two options for quickly designing simple fixtures.
The first method of making a quail drinker with your own hands from a plastic bottle
The main feature of this design is a double layout. Prepare two identical bottles with a capacity of 1.2-1.5 liters. One of them with a sharp knife or scissors cut across in half. At the bottom, make 1-2 holes in the shape of a square at a distance of 5-6 cm from the bottom. In the neck of the second bottle, on one side, make several thin holes. Then insert it upside down in the first workpiece. This construction needs to be strengthened at a certain distance from the floor with a wire, “wrapping” it with a made drinker in two places and hanging it on the wall. The water level in the lower bottom will automatically stay at the same level due to its spending by the chicks when drinking and filling through small holes.
The second method of manufacture. Necessary materials
Such a quail drinker is an analog of factory designs. Before starting work, you need to purchase the main device - a special device for supplying water in the form of a nipple. If you plan to make a three-dimensional structure for organizing the content of a sufficiently large number of chicks, it is advisable to use a plastic container of 5 l. Prepare a few nipples for installation on it. So, the following materials will be required to work:
- plastic bottle or canister (volume from 1.2 l to 5 l);
- drill and drill (their properties depend on the thickness of the surface in which you will make a hole - a bottle or canister);
- water supply device;
- adhesive sealant;
- rope or wire for hanging.
Manufacturing procedure
The device is very convenient to use, since this quail drinker is almost automatic. But when working, you need to pay special attention to fixing the nipples. There may be two options for making holes:
- turn a large bottle or canister upside down and make several holes in it;
- drill one hole in the cork of a small bottle.
After screwing the iron nipple in the thread, carefully process the joints so that there are no gaps. There may be a water leak through them. On the side opposite the holes, make a few holes through which pass the rope or wire for hanging.
Only providing young animals with high-quality food and fresh water, you can grow a healthy and strong bird. And this is a guarantee of high egg production of quails and the quality of their meat.
