Sergey Savchenko is a brilliant football player since perestroika. His career began to go uphill in the late 80s. During these years, he managed to play in the Higher League of the USSR Championship, and after the collapse of the Soviet Union, he tried to continue his career in foreign clubs in Eastern Europe, but eventually settled in Moldova. This article is about the athlete’s swift take-off and the tragic finale.
At the dawn of a career
Football player Savchenko Sergey was born in Yampol (Vinnytsia region, Ukraine). The first professional club of his career was Nistru (Chisinau). He made his debut in the team at the age of 17 as a midfielder. In those years, he managed to play as part of the youth team of the USSR, however, he was no longer invited to more adult squads.
After several successful seasons, Savchenko received an invitation from the capital CSKA. He arrived at the army club in the 85th. The team played in the First League. Sergey helped in winning gold medals.
The next year, Sergey Savchenko, together with the team, made his debut in the Premier League. Until the last round, CSKA fought for survival and, as a result, flew out only because of the rule that existed in Soviet football at that time - the limit of draws. During the season, teams receive points for only 10 draws, if there are more equal outcomes, then points for them are not awarded. That season CSKA shared points with the Leningrad Zenit, however, according to additional indicators, the St. Petersburg team were higher in the table and kept a residence permit in the elite. It is worth noting that Zenit tied 10 times that season, having received 10 points for it. CSKA 11 times at odds with the rivals, for which he was rewarded with the same number of points. Over the years of his performance at the Savchenko army club, Sergey spent about 100 matches, scoring 9 goals.
Career after adjustment
In the early 90s, Savchenko went to the Polish club “Spomosh” for a short while, then played in Ukraine in Zaporizhzhya “Torpedo” and the Romanian “Olympia”, but eventually returned to Moldova. He performed in the "Designer", "Nistru", "Zimbru."
In 1994, one year, Sergei performed in Russia in the Ramensky “Saturn”. The Moscow Region club was playing in the third division at that time. He conducted it very successfully, won 35 matches out of 46 and took second place, having received a ticket to the second division. Savchenko Sergey spent 17 matches on the field, noting three goals scored.
The football player finished his career in 1997 in Chisinau “Zimbru”.
Tragic ending
Having left big football, Sergey Viktorovich Savchenko worked in the Moldavian Football Federation and the Beach Soccer Association and was a multiple participant in veteran matches.
The football player died in July 2010, falling out of a window on the 9th floor. The main version of death is suicide. According to the investigation, on the eve of Savchenko Sergey made a serious bet on the match of the World Cup, which he lost.
