In modern construction, country houses are often made with an attic. But not everyone uses this room with the advent of cold weather. Someone does not want to spend money on insulation, while someone does not reach their hands. But itβs quite easy to organize a cozy lounge or equip a billiard room. In addition, if you have an attic, it is not so difficult to do insulation from the inside with your own hands.
Warming Methods
The method of insulation directly depends on the desired result. For example, if you plan to place a living room here, you need to insulate not only the floor, but also the ceiling and walls. Also, the insulation scheme depends on this. There are three ways:
- Masonry insulation between the rafters.
- Masonry insulation and waterproofing over the rafters.
- Integrated masonry (in addition to thermal insulation, waterproofing is carried out).
Materials for insulation
Before warming the attic from the inside, you need to determine the material. Currently, there is ongoing debate about which insulation is better in quality. There are many articles in the specialized literature that polystyrene is very unhealthy (contains a large amount of toxic substances). Glass wool can also do no less harm (during work you have to inhale the fine dust that it contains). It is not worth believing unconditionally advertising texts. All heat insulators (fiberboard, ecowool, mineral wool, polyurethane, foam, expanded polystyrene, etc.) contain chemicals. It is necessary to pay attention to another fact: if your attic is dear to you, insulation from the inside with your own hands should be done using non-combustible materials. It is also necessary to take into account the fact that each of the heaters listed above has a different thermal conductivity. And for self-insulation, polystyrene, chipboard and glass wool are best suited.
Floor insulation
In order for you to have a truly warm attic, warming yourself from the inside out must be done thoroughly. This means that the floor should also be covered with insulating material. The thickness of the insulation should be at least 10 cm. It is placed between the floor beams. In this case, the sheets must be adjusted tightly to each other. The heavier the floor, the tougher the insulation should be. Then the attic, the inside insulation with whose own hands was done with full responsibility, even in the most severe frosts will delight you with warmth.
Ceiling insulation
Here the approach should be even more serious. First you need a vapor barrier. This will prevent condensation from forming. Be sure to leave a gap for drainage. As a waterproofing, you can take a film with microperforation. Gaps must be left at least 5 cm.
Now you know the answer to the question of how to insulate the attic with your own hands, and you can cope with this task. But it is worthwhile to understand that without the proper level of responsibility to achieve the necessary results, most likely, it will not work. Good luck with this rather painstaking task!
