But in order to save financial investment, you can make the same adapter for do-it-yourself motor-blocks. To do this, you need a little knowledge, a simple set of tools and materials.
Adapter concept
Before asking a question how to make an adapter for a walk-behind tractor, you need to have a clear idea of what it is. It is a special design that allows you to ride a walk-behind tractor. Thanks to its presence, you can no longer follow the equipment, but control it from behind.
The adapter does not interfere with working with other devices (plow, planter, hiller and so on). On the contrary, it speeds up the work. At the same time, the speed of operation increases approximately twice.
Module device
The adapter allows you to make a mini tractor from a walk-behind tractor. Among its main elements are:
- Ramu. All other details are attached to it.
- Axle with wheels. Wheels can be metal and rubber coated. The first option is suitable only for work in the garden. The presence of a rubber tread allows you to move even on a dirt road.
- Tow hitch. It is necessary to connect the walk-behind tractor with trailed equipment.
- Seat for the driver. It allows you to sit comfortably during work.
A special design is used to control the unit. Depending on its design, adapters are divided into two categories:
- With a steering wheel, the drive of which is represented by a separate unit. A rigid hitch is arranged between the adapter and the walk- behind tractor.
- Management occurs by changing the angle between the adapter and walk-behind tractor. In this case, the joint is movable.
The adapter for a motor-block with a wheel is more difficult to manufacture. But with movable articulation, it’s much harder to control the technique.

Manufacturing process
When you assemble a makeshift adapter for a walk-behind tractor, a drawing is a must. You can draw it yourself if you have skills in this area. If not, a suitable scheme can be selected from existing ones. Before starting work, it is better to check all the numbers indicated there. One of the options is presented in the figure below.
The manufacture of the adapter begins with the preparation of the frame. To do this, the metal elements are cut off by the grinder according to the dimensions indicated in the drawing. Connect the elements by welding or using bolts.
Next, proceed to the chassis. If the motor-block engine is located in front, then the wheels are attached taking into account the gauge of the base wheels. The wheel axle is made of a metal pipe. At the edges are mounted bushings and bearings on which the wheels are mounted.
In the case of a rear engine, the track should be slightly wider. Otherwise, the walk-behind tractor will not be able to balance normally during operation. The best option is to install a wider bridge on the walk-behind tractor.
As the steering wheel, you can leave the handle from the walk-behind tractor. The second option is to install the steering column, taking the necessary elements from the motorcycle.
The seat can be removed from the car. And you can weld something like a bench from metal corners and attach it on top of the board. In the first case, the slide must be welded to the frame.
The hydraulic system and a special bracket (for example, for working with a plow) will help to work with attachments. A towbar may be needed if you plan to attach a semi-trailer.

Choosing the right option
It’s easy to assemble an adapter for motoblocks with your own hands. But for this you need to choose the right equipment option. Adapters may have a different design. In simple terms, they can be simple (for movement) and complex (for tillage). And there are universal ones that allow both cultivating the soil and transporting goods.
In addition, the choice of adapter depends on the power of the equipment. If the walk-behind tractor has high power, it will be able to work with an adapter with a long drawbar. Conversely, with low power, only a short one is suitable.
A home-made adapter for a walk-behind tractor will be no worse than the one bought in a store by its characteristics. He will cope with his functions perfectly. And at the same time it will cost much less than the factory.
