What is a browser? Description, purpose, configurations

The modern world is very difficult to imagine without digital technology and electronics, scientific achievements and space travel, incredible discoveries and bold, original solutions to everyday tasks. And, of course, it is difficult to imagine modernity without computer technology and the Internet, when access to the World Wide Web is available in almost every home, and children, starting from a very young age, are well versed in the basics of computer technology, know what a browser is and why is it needed.

When purchasing a computer, almost every user thinks about connecting new equipment to the Internet, discusses the technical parameters, leased line, subscription card, provider, modem, router (router) and rarely recalls such an important program as a browser. What is it and why such a software product is needed, many people think already after connecting to the network, when the time comes for the first Internet access using a new computer.

Briefly telling what a browser is, we can say that this is a program that allows you to display Internet pages on a computer screen, send and receive data from the World Wide Web.

The first browsers appeared immediately after the Internet was born, which is explained very simply - a software product was needed that would allow you to view the contents of a remote server, control data transfer. The pioneer in this area was the open source program Mosaic, which first showed in practice what a browser is and served as the basis for such well-known modern powerful systems as Internet Explorer and Navigator Netscape.

Today, browsers are included in all configurations of operating systems, starting with the most minimal systems, and each manufacturer of computer systems has made its choice in favor of a browser. The most famous browser - Internet Explorer - has been included in all versions of Windows since 1995. It is with this program that a new user learns what a browser is, what its main functions and capabilities are. For Linux, the basic browser is Google Chrome; for Mac OS, Safari.

When choosing a specific browser model for yourself, it is worth remembering that all current programs in this field necessarily fulfill a basic set of functions: displaying a site page, managing pages, recording browsing history, the ability to save passwords and automatic authorization on certain resources where this procedure is necessary. In many ways, browsers are distinguished by their appearance and an additional set of options and extensions, and therefore, each user selects for himself which model he will be most comfortable using on the Internet. Today, Opera is most popular in Russia, followed by Chrome, FireFox and Internet Explorer. If we look at global trends, then the brainchild of Microsoft Corporation, which enjoys tremendous popularity in its homeland - in the USA, as well as in European countries and Latin America, remains the permanent leader.

In conclusion, let us turn our attention to such an interesting question as what is a browser and where is it located. If everything is clear enough with the first part of this question, then the location of the browser in the computer is a mystery for many novice users. In fact, everything is quite simple here. A browser is the same program as office systems, games, application software, and therefore it is stored in the appropriate folder on the local computer disk. At the same time, access to the browser is initially done through the menu in the operating system using the corresponding icon. In the future, the shortcut can be placed on the desktop and on the taskbar so that you can access the Internet at any time.
