Powerlifting has become for many, if not the whole life, then its significant part. This is a whole world filled with triumphs and tragedy, happiness and alienation, overwork and luck. This is a world that gives a person a chance to try his physical, test his moral and spiritual strengths, to know himself as a person.
Briefly about the sport
Powerlifting (powerlifting) is a fairly young sport, because it is known only a little more than 30 years. He owes his name to the English words “power” - “power, power” and “lift” - “lift”. The pioneers of this sport are Americans, and in the former USSR they learned about powerlifting only in 1989, when athletes from the USA and Great Britain performed for the first time in Moscow with a demonstration program.
The official World Cup began in 1972, and the European Championships in 1980. Each year, this sport is gaining more and more popularity, as can be seen from the growing number of countries participating in international competitions. It is worth noting that not only men are actively engaged in powerlifting, but also women succeed in it.
To date, this sport is completely independent. Below will be a table of standards for powerlifting regarding the assignment of ranks and categories, both for men and for women. Powerlifting includes such exercises: squats with a barbell on the shoulders, bench press lying, deadlift. All the efforts of athletes are selected so as to engage the main muscle groups. These exercises are quite universal, and therefore find application in other sports. In the process of training, we significantly strengthen our health, immunity, and increase vitality.
Powerlifting: guidelines for men
In 2014, new discharge standards were introduced for the approval of sports titles. Below is a table on men's powerlifting standards approved by the RF Ministry of Sports on September 6, 2013.
Elite => MSMK; Master => MS; Class I => GDN.
As you can see, for each weight category there is a big differentiation in the standards to achieve the title of MSMK, MS and KMS in powerlifting. The standards are met by athletes in various competitions, and for each subsequent category competitions must be at the highest level. The title of MSMK is possible from 17 years old, MS from 16 years old, other sports categories from 10 years old.

Conclusion
Too high and strict classification standards can frighten off athletes, cause their outflow to other sports, or even cause a complete cessation of classes. At the same time, relatively low standards devalue the ranks, which leads to the "overproduction" of masters in such a sport as powerlifting.
Standards always take into account many factors. A feature of powerlifting is that athletes compete in different weight categories, so the calculation takes place in two planes. Firstly, one should adhere to the requirements for a logically proportional increase in classes (categories), and secondly, the same pattern should also hold for weight categories.
It should be noted that, as the analysis shows, to this day, the division of athletes into current weight categories has no scientific justification. They themselves were automatically transferred from weightlifting more than 40 years ago. In order to determine the methods for calculating standards, the following indicators are always taken:
- Competition minutes of the last World Cup.
- World Record Tables.
- Wilks coefficients.
- ESK (unified sports classification) of Russia and other countries.
- Classification of the International Federation of Powerlifting (IPF).
Every few years, in a sport such as powerlifting, the standards constantly vary slightly, which is justified by the various achievements of athletes in certain periods.
