In 1907, during the time of the Russian Empire, there was an Imperial Russian military-historical society. The organization was headed by Nicholas II in those years. Under his leadership, society has done extensive work in the field of military history. Over the short 7 years many mass graves were found , monuments erected and much more was done. The structure of society included and worked in it more than three thousand people: various scientists, ordinary citizens, youth. The organization existed before the start of the First World War. Already in 1914, this society ceased to exist.
Nowadays, there is a need to create such a society. Thus, in 2012, by decree of the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin, a Russian military-historical society was created. The main initiator and concurrently the chairman of the organization is the Minister of Culture of the Russian Federation V. Medinsky. Support of the Ministry of Culture and Defense of the Russian Federation
The work of the RVIO and the Ministry of Culture and Defense of Russia are closely interlinked. To date, the society has created about 20 children's camps with a military-historical direction. RVIO is engaged in the creation of monuments to the heroes of hostilities. Single textbook
President Vladimir Putin authorized the historical society to create a single textbook on the history of Russia for all schools in the country, and more specifically for secondary schools. The main idea of the new textbooks is to write a simple and understandable story without unnecessary dubious facts and without distorting it. Also, several oldest historical and military societies will join the RVIO.
