There are only two stories of the origin of the Dead Sea - biblical and scientific. This sea-lake is unique: here you can relax and take salt baths almost all year round, and no matter how hard you try, you won’t be able to drown, and even on the hottest day you won’t be able to sunbathe. The composition of this reservoir is a storehouse of useful elements that comprehensively affect the body. The lowest water temperature in the Dead Sea is in January, around +20 o C.
Scientific version of origin
Eurasia and Africa were once the same mainland. About 10 million years ago, their divergence began due to drift of lithospheric plates. The result was a tectonic fault, which is a component of the Syrian-African fault. Plates continue to move today, and seismic manifestations constantly remind of this.
The basin began to fill with sea water, forming the Lashon Bay. About 4 million years ago, the effects of volcanic eruptions blocked the access of water from the Mediterranean Sea to the gulf, and its division into fragments began due to drying out. Two lakes were formed (Hula and Kinneret) and the Dead Sea - all of them are interconnected by the Jordan River.
Features of the sea lake
A phenomenon like the Dead Sea on the planet no longer exists:
- Firstly, it is located at the lowest point. The difference between the level of its surface and the oceans is 400 meters.
- Secondly, no body of water can compare with the sea in terms of the percentage of salt.
- Thirdly, life is practically absent in it, since, with the exception of certain types of microorganisms, no living creature can withstand such a concentration of salt.
- Fourth, the sea is completely autonomous, that is, it has no way out: the exchange takes place by evaporation of the water and replenishment of its quantity thanks to the Jordan and minor precipitation.
- Fifth, the sea is located on a "pillow" of salt, which is about 2 km, which explains its composition.
Currently, the Dead Sea is 67 km long and 18 km wide. The volume compared with the original (325 m 3 ) decreased by 178 m 3 and amounts to 147 m 3 . The annual sea level drop is 1 m, so we can expect its complete disappearance after 800 years. Water temperature in the Dead Sea ranges from +20 o C to +30 o C throughout the year.
Bible version of occurrence
In Asia, on the edge of the Judean Desert, is a deep lake. Due to its size and water, in which there is no life, it is called the Dead Sea. Weather and water temperature in it are favorable for year-round recovery.
There is a biblical explanation of the reasons for the appearance of such a strange sea. Legend has it that in ancient times there were two cities, called Sodom and Gomorrah, whose inhabitants indulged in all kinds of vices. They did not heed the Lord's exhortations, ceasing to fear his wrath. Then the Almighty decided to destroy them.
However, there was an obstacle: there was only one righteous man in the city - Lot, so the Lord could not fulfill his intention. Lot was warned of the danger hanging over the cities, and he was told to leave with his family, not looking back. The righteous did everything according to the Creator, but his wife was extremely curious. Leaving the city, she looked around and immediately turned into a salt pillar.
Cities were destroyed, and the Dead Sea appeared on a lifeless plain. And the temperature of the water in it, and its composition help get rid of health problems. Apparently, the Creator’s intention was to make the place that gave birth to the city of vice a beneficial place for healing.
Safety precautions
The national trail to the shores of the Dead Sea has not been overgrown for several millennia. The first mention of it dates back to the II century BC. e. Today, tourists from all over the world rush to the coast of the salt lake: its unique mineral composition contributes to both the prevention and treatment of diseases. By the way, the water temperature in the Dead Sea is almost independent of the season.
However, some precautionary rules must be observed:
- happy hours are not observed, but one should not forget about time, immersed in salty sea water - the period of stay in it should not exceed 20 minutes;
- Coming out of the water, be sure to take a shower to wash off the salt from the body.
Temperature mode
The annual rainfall in this natural zone is not more than 50 mm. Their season is winter, and during this period the air is characterized by increased humidity. Most often it is dry and sunny. As for sea water, it is close in composition to lymph and human blood and contains almost in full the periodic table.
Let's get acquainted with the water temperature in the Dead Sea for months:
- Winter season: in December to +23 ° C; in January to +21 ° C; in February to +19 o C. Compensated for a lower temperature background with a higher concentration of trace elements in water.
- Spring season: the Dead Sea water temperature in March is relatively low - +21 ; in April +22 ° C; in May reaches +25 o C.
- The summer season is characterized by high temperatures: from +28 to +30 .
- The autumn season is considered the most comfortable: in September, the water warms up to + 31 ° C; in October - up to 30 ° C; in November +28 about C.
Additional advantages
The Dead Sea is a model of comfort and safety. You will not get a burn by taking sun baths, since the strong evaporation of water from the surface of the sea forms a protective buffer that prevents the penetration of ultraviolet radiation. And besides, these places, surrounded by mountains, are practically inaccessible to the wind. Rains here are rare guests, but warmth and sunshine live here as hosts.
The treatment, relaxation, air and water temperature in the Dead Sea in Israel are the perfect combination to restore health.
