DIY air ionizer. Bipolar air ionizer. What is an air ionizer for?

The variety of equipment sold in stores is striking in its wide scope. Among the proposed devices there are those whose purpose is clear and they are vital for us, and when we see some, we think about their purpose. Now air ionizers are becoming more and more popular devices, so let's find out why an air ionizer is needed, how its different types differ from each other, and how to assemble such a useful device yourself.

Why do I need an air ionizer?

DIY air ionizer

As a scientific digression, let’s say that in the natural atmosphere of air 1 cm 3 contains negative ions in the amount of 1000 for the middle band, 2000 for the sea coast and up to 15 000 for the highlands. It is in such places as forests, groves, sea and mountain resorts, coasts of lakes and rivers that medical and health facilities are most often built, because there the air itself has a beneficial effect on the body. Indoors, the ion content is reduced by 10-15 times, which does not meet sanitary standards. With prolonged exposure indoors, an aeroionic deficiency occurs in a person, which often leads to serious diseases of the chronic course, premature aging and a decrease in immunity. The ionizer located in the room will significantly improve air quality, reduce the influence of harmful factors and the spread of viral infections and increase the body's resistance. It is very good to install an ionizer in those rooms where there are many electrical appliances, because their electromagnetic field converts ionized oxygen into molecular oxygen.

The principle of operation of the ionizer

Whether you collect the air ionizer yourself or buy in the store, the principle of its operation will remain unchanged: an electric field is created between the two needle-shaped electrodes by applying a direct current of different polarity. The created field is the cause of emission, the flow of negative electrons to positive ones.

Bipolar air ionizer
Negatively charged particles attach to air molecules, saturating it with ions, creating the effect of a "living atmosphere". At the same time, dust particles are charged, they do not fly in the air, but settle on special plates.

Types of air ionizers

Any of these devices can be described as a bipolar air ionizer, but they are divided into several types according to functionality, place of application and method of ionization. So, it is possible to distinguish ionizer-cleaners and the same devices with the function of humidification of air; they can be used in an apartment, car or office; filters in them are coal, water or type "HEPA".

Homemade Air Ionizer

Of course, such a device can be bought in the store - today there is a large selection of ionizers with various functions. But you can assemble an air ionizer with your own hands, and the creation of the simplest of them will not cause difficulties. To do this, you will need:

  • 2 small plastic containers, perfect packaging for toys from eggs in Kinder Surprise;
  • plug with two wires with a diameter of 0.5 mm;
  • electrical tape or other insulation;
  • scissors;
  • needle.

Air ionizer circuit
If this is your first experience, two containers will be enough, in the future you can collect the device from a larger number of "eggs". Before starting work, make sure that children and animals will not interfere with the process. In each container, make a hole with a needle, twisting it slightly so that the diameter is sufficient to pass the wire. Dissolve the wires in one conductor and pass them so that in one container there are positive, and in the other - negative charges. Insulate the cores, and only then connect them together, and then attach the wire to the plug (if it has been separated). The design is ready, you can connect to the network. To protect the assembled structure, you can make a small box for it and store it in a place inaccessible to pets and children.

What is an air ionizer for?

DIY car air ionizer

Making an ionizer for a car is a little more complicated than a home one. Therefore, you need to be confident in your abilities and abilities when embarking on this process. A relatively simple and proven circuit of an air ionizer is assembled using a generator on a 555 chip, which is also called a timer. Such a part costs 15-20 rubles, and you can find it in any store of radio components. In the circuit, it plays the role of a single-channel generator, the operating frequency of which is adjusted by selecting the components of the RC chain. In order not to buy a transformer, you can take any power supply, for example, the remaining from the old system unit. From there, the transformer should be carefully soldered, to facilitate the operation of the ferrite, you can heat it with a lighter and then separate the halves with a needle. They should not crumble or break. Feel free to throw out the old winding - you need to rewind a new one. The primary contains 14 turns, which must be wrapped in 2-3 layers of insulation, clerical tape is suitable. The secondary winding consists of 600 revolutions, and through each hundred insulation must be installed. Now the timer is connected to the transformer, in accordance with the scheme, a voltage multiplier assembled from capacitors and diodes KTs106 is connected. It remains to push the wiring from the multiplier to a distance of 2-3 cm from each other - and can be included in the network. If the experiment is successful, a characteristic smell of ozone will appear in the air.

Possible disadvantages of the device

Homemade Air Ionizer

Of course, a bipolar air ionizer has a lot of positive characteristics: it improves air, cleans it of unpleasant odors and harmful impurities of gases, dust, bacteria, germs and allergens. But he also creates a fairly powerful electromagnetic field, which affects the human body. Until now, scientists have not decided yet and are conducting research, trying to understand whether such radiation brings more harm or more benefit. A large amount of ozone in the air is harmful, which is released in the form of positively charged ions along with useful negatively charged ones. In this regard, it is not necessary to turn on such a device for a long time, and for the duration of the operation, it should be located as far away as possible from the person.

It is not difficult to assemble an air ionizer with your own hands to use it at home or in a car. Let this device improve your well-being and enjoy fresh and healthy air.
