Otitis media: treatment, symptoms, diagnosis

Acute otitis media disease, the treatment of which based on normalization of nasal breathing and removal of the inflammatory process, caused by bacterial infection of the auditory tube. This can occur with prolonged or chronic rhinitis, with SARS, if breathing through the nose is difficult . In addition, the disease can provoke an allergy or a curved nasal septum. In influenza, sometimes a viral (bullous) otitis media occurs, accompanied by the formation of vesicles on the eardrum.

Otitis media. Symptoms

  • At the initial stage of the disease, body temperature rises, there is a noticeable decrease in hearing, accompanied by low-frequency noise (hum) and severe pain.

  • After a couple of days, another symptom may appear - the discharge of pus from the ear. In this case, the pain decreases, which indicates a hole (perforation) in the eardrum and, accordingly, the beginning of the perforated stage of purulent otitis media.

  • In the case of a uterus in the ear, the disease is diagnosed as otitis media, in which the vesicles formed on the eardrum begin to open themselves, but in this case, perforation does not form.

  • When hearing infection becomes noticeable during infection of the auditory tube and ear congestion appears, this is a signal for the development of acute tubo-otitis, which is accompanied by modifications of this tube with inflammation of its mucous membrane.

Acute otitis media of the middle ear, the treatment of which, in order to obtain an early positive result, must be started in a timely manner, can manifest itself as an exudative option. Its only symptom is hearing loss. The development of the exudative option is promoted by a violation that has not been resolved in time, which changed the functions of the auditory tube, when exudate (fluid) begins to accumulate during the removal of the inflammatory process behind the eardrum.

The development of chronic adhesive otitis media begins against the background of advanced exudative otitis media. So, the result of not performed during treatment is the formation of scars and adhesions in the eardrum, the fluid behind it becomes thick.

Diagnostics

Otitis media of the middle ear, the treatment of which must be started after the diagnosis with an otorhinolaryngological examination, which allows you to make a correct conclusion about the condition of the middle ear. The use of special endoscopic equipment contributes to the correct diagnosis of the disease. A miniature video camera multiplies the image that is displayed on the monitor. In this case, it is possible to take a picture for subsequent monitoring of the dynamics of treatment.

Instruments such as a tympanometer and an audiometer help determine the integrity of the eardrum, the mobility of the auditory system, and the estimated degree of hearing recovery.

Otitis media. Treatment

The most important thing to remember is that for otitis media, self-medication is strictly prohibited! Moreover, something to bury in the ears, even the most miraculous drops that helped some friends. Only after an examination by the otolaryngologist, qualified diagnosis and the appointment of drugs suitable for you, you can begin to eliminate the disease.

If a person has otitis media of the middle ear, treatment should be carried out by means of highly effective behind-the-ear blockades (the needle is very thin, the injections are completely painless), which significantly reduces the course of the inflammatory process and quickly relieves pain.

In addition, ultrasound treatment, laser and magnetotherapy are prescribed, which contribute to the resorption of exudate behind the eardrum and greatly facilitate the patient's condition.
