Mail.ru appeared 20 years ago and today is one of the most popular free services. To increase the convenience and speed of using this service, you can use any email client for a PC or smartphone. How to do this will be described in detail in the article.
Settings
To use the Mail.ru email account in your email program, you need to know the parameters for connecting to the server. For this mail service they are as follows:
- POP3 Inbox Server Address: pop.mail.ru.
- Port for POP3: 995.
- IMAP4 Inbox Server Address : imap.mail.ru.
- Port for IMAP: 993.
- SMTP outgoing mail server address: smtp.mail.ru.

The POP3 and IMAP4 protocols differ from each other in the way they interact with the server. In the first case, letters are downloaded to the computer’s memory using the mail client. On the server, they are deleted.
In the second case, the letters are copied to the PC hard drive with the mail program, remaining on the server. The IMAP4 protocol also supports synchronization by the mail service. This means that all actions with letters on the local machine will be duplicated on the server. This also works in the opposite direction, that is, when you delete mail from the server, it will also be erased on the user's computer.
Connecting an email account in Microsoft Outlook 2007
In order to set up an account using mail from Mail.ru, you need to:
- Open the “Account Settings” window by selecting the corresponding item in the “Tools” menu.
- In the dialog box in the "Mail" tab, click on the "Create" button.
- Mark the checkbox “Configure manually”.
- In the new dialog box, put a checkmark next to "Internet Email."
- Fill all the deadlines in a new window with the required information.
- Click the “Other Settings” button.

Using a browser to check mail on your phone is inconvenient. Therefore, it is easier to configure the Android client built-in once. This is done as follows:
- In the main menu, find and launch the Mail or E-mail application.
- At the first start, it will offer to connect one of the American mail services to which Mail.ru does not apply. Therefore, you need to click on “Other (POP3 / IMAP) or Other (POP3 / IMAP).
- Enter the full e-mail address and password.
- Select a protocol type for incoming messages.
- Change the POP3 / IMAP server address and encryption type to the necessary ones. The port number will change automatically.
- SMTP Mail.ru settings are similar to POP3 / IMAP. In the same window, you need to check the box next to "Require account login."
- At the last step, the frequency of synchronization with the server and checking for new messages is configured.
