The name itself - the island of Borneo - is associated in the imagination with painted natives, mysterious pirate treasures, tribal wars. Geographically, it is divided between three states: Indonesia, as well as Malaysia and Brunei.

In Borneo, rest is possible throughout the year, because there is summer all the time. Translated, the name of the island means β€œland below the wind”, because it is actually located in the zone of the typhoon belt.

The island of Borneo appeared on world maps only in 1521, at a time when the expedition of Magellan sailed to it. However, this does not mean at all that it did not exist: merchants of China, Japan, India, and many other countries knew about this land, who carried on brisk trade with local Aborigines.

The climate of this exotic piece of land, despite its equatorial location, is tropical and humid, but not asphyxiating, without temperature differences throughout the year. In January and July, it ranges from 25 to 30 degrees. April, May, October are considered the wettest months, so the number of tourists at this time is sharply reduced.

Many who have visited this exotic island consider it a fairy tale that came true in reality. And bright clear water, and snow-white fine sand, and palm trees leaning towards the water, and a huge number of nearby uninhabited islands - all this guarantees an unforgettable vacation.

The island of Borneo is the largest in the Malay archipelago. Its unique fauna and flora attract a huge number of lovers of untouched nature. It is here that you can meet the world's largest flower Rafflesia, which in girth has almost two meters, the rarest species of orchids. In general, up to 60 varieties of trees grow on the island, including camphor, cinnamon, gutta-percha, etc. And the fruits on the island are so good that many come here solely because of them.

The beaches of Borneo are rich in vegetation, they are protected from waves by coral islets.

The main thing is that, in addition to beach recreation and diving, it attracts tourists here - it is an opportunity to become a pioneer of wildlife.

Having been on the island, you must definitely climb Mount Kinibalu. It is here that you can enjoy the unreal beauties of local landscapes, swim in the hydrocarbon thermal healing springs. You can rent a chalet and take a bath right next door. There you must definitely see the bridge, which literally hangs on the branches of tall trees.

The reserve parks of the island practically did not suffer from human activities. Here, a living gibbon or a flying fox, rare plants, in a word, all the pristine beauty that has been hidden from human eyes for centuries, are not uncommon.

The island of Borneo is a real land of adventure with rainforests, majestic rivers, a huge number of caves, tropical coral atolls, located mainly in its eastern part.

Marine reserves offer a great opportunity for diving, attracting in Sabah - one of the island's states, lovers of underwater beauty, and rafting on mountain rivers - a favorite pastime for extreme lovers.

When choosing a holiday in Borneo, you should definitely visit the caves of Mulu and Niah, famous for their excavations: it was here that the remains of an ancient man were found, having an age of about 40 millennia.

A peculiar attraction of the island are the "longhouses" - long houses built on high rafters. Their feature is the ability to grow in length, placing, at times, in themselves entire tribes of natives.

In national restaurants you can taste the local cuisine, the main ingredients of which are, of course, seafood, meat and noodles.

The island of Borneo is called Kalimantan in a different way, which many associate with the children's books of Main Reed.
