Buddhism today is one of the largest religions practiced, which, along with Christianity and Islam, is preached by a large number of people. The most ancient religion got its start from the teachings of the great sage Buddha. Probably because its origins are so ancient - this is one of the most mysterious and therefore attracting the attention of religions. Even those who are not Buddhists always pay attention to how beautiful Buddha statues are located in various places on our planet.

Buddha statues

There are a huge number of them, and despite this, there are even more. Why? Have you ever been near such a work of art? The Buddha statue always blows with peace and tranquility, a feeling of security and a certain inner joy appears. His slight smile penetrates directly into the heart and warms the soul. But he is alone for centuries - not a single architectural structure anywhere depicts it next to a student or mother, a faithful wife or children .... But here are the poses found in the image of the Buddha statue, the most varied - sitting in thought, standing with one hand raised up, lying on the right side with the left arm extended along the body. In the first case, this is the usual pose of the sage, in which most of his disciples saw him most often, the second pose of the Buddha statue is the preaching of his teachings, and the third is an image of his earthly death, getting rid of all torment and reaching the highest peak of nirvana.

Bamyan Buddha statues

The largest Buddha statue is in Burma, where over 90% of the population are Buddhists. The length of the sage lying on its side reaches fifty-five meters, and the height is fifteen. Historians believe that this colossus was created in the 10th century. In 1757, the town in which the statue was located was destroyed, and everyone forgot about the statue. Only after two and a half centuries the pilgrimage of believers to the shrine was restored, which continues to this day.

To date, the Bamyan Buddha statues are considered the most beautiful, which, unfortunately, can only be seen on surviving photographs. The statues were in Afghanistan and in March 2001 were destroyed by the Taliban in protest against all world communities. One of the statues was among the largest images of the great sage and reached a height of 54 m. According to historical data, the age of these statues was very ancient - they were built in the 1st century AD. The name itself comes from the name of the area - Bamiyan, that is how the geographical location of present-day Afghanistan was called in antiquity. Even during the invasion of the Tatar-Mongol yoke, the shrine was very badly damaged, but, nevertheless, still retained all its grandeur and recognizable features, but it did not survive the subsequent shock.
