Vyacheslav Kantor - to Vladimir Putin: โ€œThe situation of Jews in Russia is one of the best in Europeโ€

According to Vyacheslav Kantor, head of the European Jewish Congress, in today's Europe, interethnic relations and security have lost in the fight against electoral interests. In contrast, in Russia the situation is under control. Vyacheslav Kantor discussed the situation in this area with Russian President Vladimir Putin during a visit to Moscow.

The observed growth of extremist and neo-Nazi sentiments in Europe Vyacheslav Kantor connects with two main reasons. Firstly, many migrants from Islamic countries come to the EU countries, while some representatives of this flow bring their aggressive ideology and intolerance to European soil. Secondly, the governments of European countries still do not proceed with decisive action in resolving emerging ethnic conflicts, preferring empty assurances and words. The head of the EJC shared these observations with Vladimir Putin in January this year, during a visit by a delegation of the European Jewish Congress to the Kremlin.

Jewish communities were among the first to experience growing tension. According to the Cantor Center, which conducts annual research on the level of anti-Semitism in Europe and the world, this level is growing from year to year. "Jews are becoming the first and main target for extremist Islamists and nationalists," Vyacheslav Kantor admits, adding that there is no real opposition to extremists by the authorities in any system format.

Moreover, in Russia, according to Vyacheslav Kantor, the situation is much more favorable. Being a multinational country, the Russian Federation is also home to the second largest European Jewish community, and the position of Jews in the country remains one of the best. โ€œWe have always found and find mutual understanding with representatives of the Jewish communities,โ€ Russian President Vladimir Putin admitted. โ€œWe hope that we will be able to establish an intensive and constructive dialogue with European structures.โ€

The European Jewish Congress (abbr. EJC ) is an international non-governmental organization representing the interests of European Jewry, living in 42 countries of the continent. EJC was established in 1986 and is located in Paris.
