How to make a homemade long burning stove

The cost of energy, which is constantly growing in price every year, forces us to look for more acceptable options. And laying the same gas pipeline to a country house sometimes results in such amounts that it is sometimes cheaper to build another cottage. A home-made long burning stove can help in solving the heating problem. You have probably heard about similar solid fuel boilers, which in recent years have become simply wildly popular. Their problem is that not everyone has the desire to buy something like this for a country house, which is used irregularly in the winter.

Principle of operation

Unlike ordinary wood-fired boilers, which require a sufficient supply of oxygen for normal functioning, a home-made long-burning stove is based on exactly the opposite principle.

Simply put, the fire burns at the top of the chamber, providing a very long and energy-efficient process. Another advantageous difference is that the supply of necessary (albeit in smaller quantities) for oxygen combustion is carried out not from the premises, but from the street.

What will be required for manufacturing?

Of course, the case of the device can be welded from sheet metal, but this method is associated with a number of difficulties. First, you need a good welder. Secondly, sheet metal of sufficient thickness is now expensive, and there is nowhere to get it.

And therefore, a home-made long-burning stove can very well be made of a metal barrel. But much better option with an empty gas cylinder. The thickness of its walls is greater, and the quality of the manufacture of seams is much higher. This means that such a stove will serve for a long time.

Work

We cut the barrel, giving it the shape of a cylinder open on one side. In the upper part on the side we cut a hole along the diameter of the future chimney. Since the furnace for long burning is unlikely to be used in the winter, its design can be simplified as much as possible.

Next, make and mount a metal piston. We take a piece of metal, the thickness of which should be at least 4 mm, and cut out a disk from it. Its outer diameter should coincide with the inner diameter of your furnace, but you need to leave a certain margin, given the thermal expansion of the material.

In the center of the cut-out disk, you need to carefully cut a hole that exactly matches the outer diameter of the oxygen supply pipe . The resulting elements are joined by welding. We also make the top cover. We cut a hole in it for an air intake pipe, provide some kind of latch for firm attachment to the upper edge of the barrel.

All improvised long-burning stoves must be thoroughly boiled, as a violation of the tightness will lead to a decrease in efficiency.

How does it work?

All sorts of wood junk is poured into the barrel from above: scraps of boards and branches, sawdust and small chips. To speed up the ignition process, you can lightly pour them with used oil. We set fire to the fuel, after which we hoist the piston from above with the air supply pipe welded to it. Put the lid.

All! Your homemade long burning stove works. As the fuel burns out, the piston will lower under the weight of the pipe, preventing too much burning.
