early years
Goran Dragic was born in the Slovenian city of Ljubljana on May 6, 1986. From childhood, he dreamed of repeating the sporting successes of his father, who was a successful football player. However, a serious leg injury, received even before adulthood, did not allow to fulfill a cherished desire.
A way out of the situation for Dragic was basketball, to which he was introduced by school friends. Goran liked the game so much that the guy began to regularly watch NBA games on TV. Sometimes the boy woke up at 3 in the morning to enjoy the fights of the best overseas teams.
At the beginning of his professional career, Goran Dragic, whose height was 193 cm with a weight of 81 kg, held the position of a light forward in several amateur groups. The first serious club of young talent was the Iliriya team, which played in the second league of the Slovenian championship. This was followed by a transition to Slovan, which held leading positions in the country's top division.
The peak of the European career for the player was a transfer to the Spanish “Murcia”. The contract was drawn up in 2006. In 2007, Goran Dragic returned to his homeland, having played a full season for the Olympia club. The result of a year-long performance for the new team was the conquest of the first champion title in a professional career.
NBA Career
In 2008, Goran Dragic decided to nominate his own candidate for draft in the clubs of the National Basketball Association. As a result of the event, the budding basketball player ended up at San Antonio Spurs. However, not having played a full season, Goran ended up in another NBA club - Phoenix Sans. Here for several seasons, in a row, Dragic had to play the role of a substitute for one of the team's old-timers - Steve Nash.
The finest hour of the young player came in 2010, when he appeared on the court in the third semifinal match of the Western Conference, in which the “Sans” fought against the former Goran club from San Antonio. During the match, the defender managed to hit the opponent’s ring 26 times. Moreover, Dragic brought 23 points to the piggy bank of his own team in the decisive fourth quarter. Thus, it was thanks to the actions of the newcomer that the Phoenix managed to overcome the barrier in the form of one of the most irreconcilable rivals and advance along the competition grid.
From 2009 to 2015, Goran Dragic played 388 matches for Sans, in which he scored an average of 20.3 points per game, performed 5.9 assists and 2.8 rebounds. This season, the basketball player defends the colors of his new Miami Heat club.
Team appearances
In 2004, Goran Dragic was invited to the Slovenian youth team, in which he won the gold medals of the European Youth Championship. The basketball player has always played for the country's adult team from 2006 to 2010. He participated in the 2006 World Cup and the European Championship in 2007 and 2009.
