Stocked up not only canned vegetables, salads and preserves, but also various drinks. One of such tasty, healthy, aromatic and quick to prepare drinks is stewed oranges.
As you know, citrus fruits occupy a special and very important place among the entire fruit and berry variety. This is such a delicacy that will not leave indifferent either fastidious adults or capricious gourmet babies. There are a lot of options for preparing various drinks with citrus fruits. However, not all recipes are suitable for winter harvesting.
Today we will offer several popular, completely simple, not expensive in terms of money and time and absolutely not complicated recipes for stewed oranges. We want to note right away that oranges are such a universal product that you can combine it with both fruits and various berries or aromatic herbs (for example, mint).
Classic recipe
To begin with, perhaps, we will not resort to culinary experiments and prepare the simplest and most often used housewife recipe for orange compote. To taste, it will very much resemble citrus juice and absolutely will not lose in the amount of vitamins during heat treatment. This is a great addition to winter desserts.
Essential Ingredients:
- 2 l of water;
- 600 g of sugar;
- five oranges.
Description of the cooking process
This recipe for orange compote will require a significant amount of patience from the hostess. Fruits must be washed, peeled and removed the white part, that is, those partitions that are between the orange slices. Bones and films are also removed. For the preparation of the drink, we only need slices of a triangular shape, smooth and neat.
In pre-prepared glass containers, which also will not be superfluous to sterilize, we lay oranges. Pour the required amount of water into the pan, add sugar, bring the liquid to a boil. Pour the orange slices with the resulting syrup. We leave banks in this state for 20-30 minutes. Then the syrup must be drained into the pan, bring it to a boil again. After the second filling, the cans are closed with metal lids and rolled up with a key.
We advise you not to rush to remove the container for storage. Stewed oranges must cool. Only chilled drinks can be sent to the refrigerator, cellar or pantry. If long-term storage (longer than 6 months) is planned, we recommend adding half a teaspoon of citric acid before screwing the lid.
Oranges and apples
Favorite treat, which we often indulged in, coming to the grandmother in the village, also goes well with overseas fruits. Sour notes can always be smoothed out with a couple of extra spoons of sugar. Apple taste, mixed with the aroma of orange, gives an unusual โbouquetโ. Stewed oranges and apples will not turn out to be fresh, as some housewives think, the taste, on the contrary, will be very rich and interesting.
What is required:
- 420 g of sugar;
- 6 apples
- 3 oranges;
- 1.5 liters of water.
How to cook
First you need to properly prepare the glass containers. Banks are advised to wash not just under running water, but in warm water with the addition of baking soda. Thus, microbes will be removed, and the glass will become crystal clear. After this treatment, the container should be rinsed with boiling water or sent to sterilize for 2-3 minutes. We simply fill the lids with very hot water and leave for a few minutes.
Since these ingredients contain a sufficient amount of their own acid, the use of additional products is not required. Typically, citric acid is placed in compotes of pears, sweet plums, and so on. Oranges and apples are quite acidic foods in and of themselves.
If you look at some recipe with a photo of stewed oranges, you can see that citrus fruits float in a jar without skin. Therefore, we spend a little time, remove the peel, partitions, seeds. To make a drink, you need only juicy and bright slices. The peel with seeds will have to be removed from apples. We cut them into 6-8 parts. We lay the fruits in prepared glass containers.
Pour water into the pan, pour sugar. There we send the peel from oranges. Cook the syrup for 5 minutes, add heat, let the liquid boil and immediately remove from the stove. Pour the syrup into jars and roll them with a lid. Turning the container over is not necessary. The main thing is that the compote should be removed for storage only after it has completely cooled down.
