Mineral oil for an ATV is significantly cheaper and is made from refined products. Despite the fact that, according to some indicators, it loses somewhat to the synthetic analogue, the composition ensures the full functioning of the power device. It will be the best option when used in climatic conditions with a minimum temperature level within -15 degrees for the operation of a motor with sufficient mileage.
Polysynthetic oil “Lukoil Lux” contains in its composition a mineral and synthetic base. It combines the characteristics of the two types of oils mentioned above, and is recommended for use in modern engines with high mileage.
What kind of oil to fill in the ATV?
The selection of the composition is made depending on the type of gearbox. No less attention should be paid to viscosity, since it provides long-term storage of fluid on the rubbing elements. Two numbers are used for its designation, the first of which reflects the cranking ability and engine starting temperature. The second value indicates the level of viscosity when operating at high temperatures. With increasing this parameter, the number indicated on the package increases. High viscosity formulations are not suitable for conventional power motors, as they result in malfunctioning and reduced power. They are the best option for powerful and sports devices. Therefore, as noted earlier, ATV oil is selected in accordance with the vehicle manufacturer's instructions.
Transmission
One of the most important components is the gearbox, which also requires compliance with the required oil level and its systematic replacement. The box can be mechanical, semi-automatic and automatic. The latter option has gained the greatest distribution on low-power and children's ATVs. A semi-automatic system can be found in vehicles that have the function of connecting an all-wheel drive under established road conditions. A manual gearbox is used on sports quads.
The viscosity of the oil used in the gearbox is selected individually, depending on the conditions and the required characteristics. For example, automatic gearboxes require ATV gear oil, while mechanical gearboxes can use any type of fluid. As for the choice of the degree of viscosity, this parameter is selected taking into account the type of gearbox and its thermal load.

The instructions on the packaging indicate approximate oil change times. When buying a new ATV, it is worth considering the break-in period during which it does not require the use of a new composition. On average, filter elements and the oil itself are replaced every 1000 km. With a similar interval, diagnostics and maintenance of other systems are performed.
Naturally, do not forget about unscheduled maintenance, which is difficult to prevent, because vehicles can either get stuck in mud or get into the water. After such incidents, it is recommended to disassemble it to remove dirt and moisture. The new oil is poured into the ATV gearbox after reassembly and complete drying.
