The sewer system in apartments and private houses is characterized by a rather complicated wiring. Moreover, even insignificant-looking elements can play an important role in the functionality of the system. A special place in the piping is given to the sewer siphon (water trap) - a special curved pipe or an entire pipe construction, due to which a sink or bath is connected to the sewer.
Such a bizarre form of this device was not chosen by chance, because thanks to the bend in the siphon, a water plug is formed that does not allow odors from the sewer to enter the room.

Types and selection of a suitable product

Structurally, three varieties can be distinguished:
- Bottle water trap with submerged tube. Externally, it can be of various configurations, the main thing is a lateral drain for sewage and an elongated lower part, in which water accumulates. Inside there is a tube from the drain of the sink (bathtub), through which water enters. Due to the difference in water level in the “bottle”, extraneous odors do not penetrate from the side outlet.
- Bottle water seal with two partitions. It differs from the first type by the presence of a drain outlet at the bottom of the structure. Inside, the system also provides a water plug with two partitions.
- The pipe siphon for sewage is a series-connected pipe system. Usually at least one of them has a curved shape in which water is retained.

How to connect a siphon to the sewer

- Fix the joints.

- Check connections for leaks by turning on water. Re-seal if necessary.
Correctly connecting the bath siphon to the sewer will be a little more difficult, mainly due to the inaccessibility of the drain pipe. After the drain hole is aligned with the inlet of the water seal, you can use the corrugated pipe for the second outlet. For ease of installation and connection of pipes of different diameters, the use of adapters of appropriate sizes is provided.

The real owner and such work is quite capable. You can literally make the simplest siphon for sewage with your own hands from improvised means. Corrugated plastic pipe, which is also often used in the layout of sewer pipes, is best suited for this. To do this, it is necessary to give it a curved configuration and securely fix the bend.
