The ideal aperitif that arouses appetite, according to many knowledgeable people, is Aperol. What kind of drink is this? Let's talk about it in an article.
A bit of history
Aperol is a low-alcohol drink that was created at the beginning of the last century in Italy by the Barbieri brothers. After the Second World War, Aperol gained worldwide fame. And today this drink in Italy is considered one of the most popular. At present, the Aperol brand belongs to the Kampari concern.
Composition of the drink
"Aperol" is a drink that is made according to an ancient secret recipe using tinctures, which contain only natural selected ingredients: sweet and bitter oranges, as well as roots and herbs (buckwheat, rhubarb, fruits of the quinine tree), and in compliance with the ideal balanced proportions. The peculiarity of the unique taste is the original, slightly bitter shades and low alcohol content (only 11 degrees). The natural orange concentrate used in the production gives the drink a bright orange color, which is a kind of brand name of the aperitif, which has remained unchanged for almost 100 years. Aperol has excellent tonic and refreshing properties, making it very popular among Italian youth, especially on hot summer days.
How to drink a drink?
So, what is Aperol, we found out, now we learn how to use it correctly. If you have purchased a bottle of such a drink, do not rush to drink it in its pure form. At home, in Italy, Aperol is most often one of the ingredients of cocktails. The most common combinations are as follows:
Pour grapefruit or orange juice into a glass two-thirds and โAperolโ add a third, add ice cubes.
In a glass with โAperolโ add sparkling water and a slice of orange.
Fill a quarter-glass with dry wine, add Aperol and a little sparkling water.
Such mixtures really well refresh and quench your thirst in the hot season.
Aperol Squirt cocktail
In 1950, on the basis of the aperitif Aperol, they began to prepare a cocktail, thanks to which the drink became popular not only in Italy, but throughout Europe. It is called "Aperol Squirt." The above third mixture can be considered similar to this cocktail. And although European dry wine with soda has long been consumed in European countries, with the advent of the alcoholic beverage in question, this mixture became very popular. And today the Aperol Spritz cocktail is a huge success. To a certain extent, the Campari marketing campaign also contributes to this: the recipe for this world famous cocktail is directly on the label of the Aperol bottle.
We present it to your attention:
"Aperol" - two parts;
soda - one part;
- dry sparkling wine (ideally Prosecco) - three parts.
All this is placed in a pre-chilled glass, pieces of ice are added, everything is well mixed and decorated with a slice of any citrus, usually orange. Connoisseurs recommend this cocktail to be served with a tube, as the density of drinks in the composition is different, therefore they do not mix very quickly. It is undesirable to mix the drink with Aperol before serving, as as a result of this carbon dioxide of sparkling wine will quickly disappear.
Aperol Flip Cocktail
Such a cocktail has appeared recently. And, to be honest, it's not very correct to call it a flip, because for its preparation it is not a whole egg used, as it should be, but only protein.
It is prepared as follows: fill the shaker with crushed ice, add 30 ml of Aperol, 20 ml of lemon juice, 1 egg white, a tablespoon of sugar syrup. Beat the resulting ingredients well. Then pour 60 ml of sparkling wine into a cocktail glass, whipped mixture on top. Traditionally, the glass is decorated with a ribbon of orange peel. You can also squeeze a drop of juice (essentially an essential oil) onto the surface of the drink. You need to make a cocktail very carefully, as often beaten egg white sticks in sparkling wine. To avoid this, you should take a large glass for such a mixed drink.
Aperol is still not a very familiar drink for us, but those who try cocktails based on it will certainly be satisfied.
