Change of banknotes of the post-Soviet space by the example of 50 rubles

After the collapse of the USSR, the type of banknotes has repeatedly changed until now. Sometimes for economic reasons - the need to denominate the ruble, sometimes for practical reasons - the introduction of a metal 10-ruble coin. The most interesting story is the conversion of 50 rubles from a bill to a coin, from coin back to bill.

50 rubles

Pre-reform period (until 1993)

Before the financial reform that took place in 1993, USSR money remained in circulation : banknotes of 1961, 1991, 1992. Also in use were five thousandth and ten thousandth Tickets of the Bank of Russia, which began to be issued in 1992. During this period, 50 rubles - banknotes of the sample of 1991, 1992 or 1961, slightly differ from each other. The main difference between the 50-ruble bills printed in different years of release was the color: if the 1961 banknote was green, then in 1992 there was red and yellow. On banknotes the date of issue is indicated.

1993 Reform

Monetary reform was brewing from the very beginning: from the moment of the collapse of the USSR. It was necessary to stop inflation and protect the market from the flow of money from friendly states. For the 12 days ending August 7, 1993, all old-style banknotes were removed from circulation in Russia. They were replaced with new coins and banknotes. In the history of new Russia, this day was the beginning of monetary reform. Starting from August 8, they were paid only with new Bank of Russia Tickets issued in 1993. Many citizens lost their money because they did not manage to exchange them in the allotted time, and later it was necessary to provide written evidence of the reason for the impossibility of exchanging on time.

50 rubles

After the reform, fifty rubles turned into a coin, and its purchasing power fell significantly. You couldn’t even buy bread for a coin of 50 rubles.

Over the next couple of years, the design of more popular bills slightly changed, and in 1995, banknotes appeared with improved security features. At the same time, a 100-thousandth appeared, and in 1997 - a 500-thousandth bill due to increased inflation. It was intended to issue a denomination of 1 million rubles.

Denomination

The situation was stopped by the denomination: the denomination of banknotes decreased by three orders of magnitude. So, 10,000 rubles turned into 10, 50,000 - into 50, and in increasing terms. At that moment, the usual coin of 50 rubles from a tin became an unusual paper. Accordingly, if previously fifty rubles. equated to copecks, for which you can’t buy anything, then after changing the face value for that amount you could buy a lot, for example 3-4 loaves of bread.

After the millennium

The further fate and appearance of the 50-ruble coin did not fundamentally change. Changes took place only in defense. And, of course, inflation greatly changes the basket by 50 rubles. Now for the money you can buy 1 loaf.
