After school, Galina, at the insistence of her mother, enters the 3rd Medical Institute in Moscow and studies there for five years, but in the last year she leaves the university, greatly aggravating relations with her family, and also upsetting the supervisor. Beginning of the Journalist's Path
Nothing is known about the first steps in the career of journalist Galina Timchenko. Obviously, she worked in some insignificant posts, but no one ever spoke about this anywhere. If there are people in journalism who themselves compose the story of their lives, then this is Galina Timchenko. The biography of the woman, whom she openly talks about, began with a high start - she came to work in the Kommersant newspaper as an editor. This publication is known for making very high demands on personnel, so it is obvious that Timchenko was able to achieve much in the new profession 10 years after leaving medicine. She worked at Kommersant for 2 years and in 1999, during a period of severe crisis in publishing, she decided to change the editorial board.
With the "tape" in life
In difficult times, Timchenko, like many journalists, was looking for additional work. This led her to the editorial office of the news site Lenta.ru. However, at first she did not know anything about the work of the online publication, but was able to go from a monitoring department employee to a chief editor. She headed the publication for 10 years, and during this time the site went to the top five most cited Russian-language media and became the fifth most visited European news resource in 2013. Timchenko completely rebuilt the structure of the site, assembled a brilliant team of professional newsmakers and made sure that the publication met the news needs of people from all walks of life. She expanded the genre diversity of the publication, video clips, sharp reports and interviews appeared in it. Lenta began to shape the agenda, people used to get the full picture of news on one site. At the same time, Timchenko sacredly observed the principle of objectivity of journalism, and it was impossible to accuse her of bias.
In March 2014, Roskomnadzor issued a warning to Lente because the journalist’s material contained a reference to a statement by an opposition nationalist from Ukraine. The owner of the resource Lenta.ru quickly took action and fired Galina Timchenko. This event stirred up certain sections of the population who started talking about increasing pressure on the press. Timchenko did not comment on her resignation and, as it is typical for her, left her feelings to herself. The site team actively opposed the dismissal of Timchenko, and almost all of the colleagues left after her in her new project.
Meduza
After leaving Lenta.ru, Timchenko pauses for a while, she teaches, actively participates in various broadcasts of Dozhd television and Ekho Moskvy radio. But already in October 2014, she announces the launch of the new Meduza news project. The team was composed of former employees of Lenta, and Galina Timchenko stood at the head. Meduza is located in Riga and has a rather pronounced oppositional position towards the Russian government. The media attributed the participation in the project to the freed Mikhail Khodorkovsky, but Timchenko did not confirm these speculations. Over the three months of its existence, Meduza has gathered around 1.3 million visitors. The goal of the project is to publish the most interesting news of the day in Russian, while the requirement of objectivity remains immutable for Timchenko.

The journalist’s personal life is under the strictest ban, and no one can say anything about her hypothetical wife, although it is known that once she was definitely married.
